I think we have nearly identical taste in guitars. I just bought an Artisan Aged Standard H-150 in Vintage Wineburst a week or so ago. It’s my 7th H-150, with my older being a 2006. I also love Norlin era LPs and own a 75 and 79 LP Custom with other Les Pauls made over the years (including a 68 reissue) up through the two 2022 models I bought new.

I bought a tobacco burst H-150 Custom Core when they first came out before they started aging them. Awesome flame top on mine. The pickups are definitely vintage. I ended up swapping those with a set of zebra Jalen "Kingfish" humbuckers, and they took it to the next level! I was a little disappointed that the stock 225 pickups had no markings/labels on them when I pulled them. Other than that, it's a guitar I will never part with!

Don't let sweetwater's price fool you too much, you can get the non-aged versions brand new from authorized sellers if you offer them 3k. I fucking love my Heritage custom, although I am kicking myself for not going the extra mile for the aged version. It's an incredible instrument but for whatever reason the finish on the neck is an absolute dirt magnet. I have to wipe it down multiple times through a single session or it becomes completely disgusting, even if I thoroughly wash my hands before playing. Hopefully I can get it worn in on my own before too many years. Also, the presentation of a Heritage guitar is so much better than what you get through Gibson for the same amount of money. The gorgeous, well fitted case, the case candy and customer service all supercede anything Gibson does. Big fan.

They’re truly great. We have a dealer near me and the moment I took one off the rack, I immediately felt like I’ve been wasting my time with Gibson(however I do like my standard). It’s the best feeling guitar I’ve ever played. My dealer sold them for $1000 less than sweetwater and a year after they have them, they’re sold as new-old stock for the same price as the non-custom core, so I highly encourage buying them outside of sweetwater.

I have a custom core H-150 as well in lemon burst. It's not aged but yet still feels like old wood. It's become my go to. I did change the pickups to SD Saturday night specials as the 225's were microphonic through my triamp mk3. Also the headstock on the Custom core isn't as wonky as the standard model. The construction of the Custom Core is fundamentally different from the standard H150. The H150 is very much same ole 59 LP with no changes. The Custom Core has a better designed neck and headstock angle that really elevates the ability to get a great feeling and sounding setup on the guitar. Its a hidden modernization behind the otherwise classic looks and classic Alnico 3 unpotted low output buckers. I was with my best friend when he fell in love with and purchased one of the first batches of custom cores back when they had the sub 8.5lbs promise. They really are fabulous guitars.

Not quite sure why everyone hates the headstocks?? To each his own but aside from aesthetics the narrower headstock means the stings particularly the D and G stings align better with the nut slots which helps with tuning stability something gibsons are notorious for having issues worth. The folks that stuck around after Gibson left didn't just buy the factory, they also bought all the old woodworking tools and machines from the glory days of Gibson. So you're not just getting a Gibson reproduction... it's a Gibson built in Gibson's original shop with Gibson's original machines and people that made them famous. So while the name moved away, the awesomeness stayed in Michigan. It should be noted most of Gibson's quality control issues appeared once they left Michigan when they started to cut corners.
