50 Cent is a perfect example when it comes to making money in the music industry. Eminem gave 50 around one million on a record deal, 50 sold 800,000 copies within one week. So, take 800,000x10 he made 8 million dollars within one week, so he paid back Eminem that one million dollars deal, also the production, recording sessions and studio time, the cd makers and etc he probably spent another million dollars. My estimate 50 spent on his music was probably 2 million dollars. So you take 8 million subtract 2 million that equals which is his left over money that's 6 million and that's really good. Also, he probably made more money with the publishing deal with Shady and the royalty check.

This was like 20 something years ago but I’ll never forget the experience one because I was naive and two because I wanted to be a Songwriter so bad! So I met this lady from a big record company (I don’t remember the name) I gave her my cd and told her I was trying to be a Songwriter. She look me up and down and through me! 😊 I wanted to be a Supermodel at the time so I was always on point head to toe😉 She said “Do you want to be a Singer?” I’m like NO I can’t sing but I can dance and I told her that. She asked again “ Do you want to be a Singer?” I’m like this lady is not deaf and I just said I’m trying to be a Songwriter. She said “if you change your mind let me know!!! I called her the next day and she remembered me I asked if she listened to my music! She said oh I remember you did you change your mind!! In my head, I’m like lady I’m not trying to embarrass me or my family I’m a Writer. I said No she said the same thing again! I never called back! When I got a little older I understood the question. Basically she was saying she can make me a star!! Yea they can definitely make you a star but at what cost! One most know what they really want 1st then know the business game 2nd! Shit crazy but it’s been a hella 5 years of experience, met some famous mangers, rappers. Had experience to be on stage with one of my artists that I’ve worked with , been to high end quality studios , was the best experience I ever had and I’m still learning and growing. This is the stuff Toni was talking about. She was broke because they claimed that all the money from her getting clothes for awards shows and hair makeup and other things had to be paid back. And people still doing what she did not knowing. Please continue to live like you don’t have no money. I promise it will take you far

An elderly Man told me 4 or 5 YEARS ago at the valley missions that if I want to live into his old age, do not go into this ( pointed at the CD that he was holding) and do not get into drugs. He said once you sign that contract, you are THEIRS for as long as it says.

at this very hour someone is still signing record contracts, even though the contracts today are even worse than the 70's 80's 90's. Thy own everything now, concerts, merch. even their name. Most artists now are living off of advances. They are big advances but they are still advances. As soon as they move on to the next big thing, those same artist that are blinging now will be broke because they've been living off of loans.

They don’t have to put your album out, they can sign an artist and shelve their album. Sometimes they’ll sign an artist and give most of the album they created to another artist, most artists sign away their masters and publishing. I’ve seen unsigned artists license their music to T.V. and film for more than most get as an advance, and keep the rights to their music. You could very well end up being worse off than where you started by signing to a label.

My problem is, if all of y'all know this AFTER coming into the industry, why don't you try to make sure those coming behind you is educated on the goings on of the industry. Have little seminars for those coming into and thinking about coming into the industry. Because you gotta get them before they sign on the dotted line 🤨. Or are you forbidden to do so after you sign. The problem is that no one is thinking about reading the contract. You think what the people tell you is what your contract says. And they're interested in letting their music and voice be heard, and being famous, more than thinking about their contract. And they think about getting out from up under the hood and taking care of their family, which I feel shouldn't be a kids priority or burden. And I appreciate TLC for blasting Pebbles and LA Reid, and I don't know how people still sign with LA Reid after that 🤷🏾🤨, and Pebbles, if her ass still produces and calls herself a record label. And Diddy, who the hell want to be up under his ass! Look how dirty he does his artists.. it's just sad how people unaware gets treated.

As I’ve been studying business and entertainment law, I see it’s not the business of music that’s the problem, it’s the people that run it. Fact of the matter is, most major labels have the connections that can make you more money and grow your career in ways being independent cannot, yes you can make money independently and obtain fame but if you want CERTAIN opportunities, majors have more ties to make that happen (not saying it’s impossible while independent). I tell creatives ALL OF THE TIME, you have to learn the business side in anything you love to do and not just simply do things because you love the art. Another thing, not enough ppl break down that in a 360 you can negotiate your percentages and that’s huge, I say that because you say …take 2% here, then 10% here and etc …a label is a bank, and that’s no different if a person personally loaned someone money, they want it back …a label wants their money back BUT are often not transparent about how they intend it to get it …how often do you hear them encouraging you to take your time reading the contract?? However, it is there in the contact. 360’s became more popular when record sales lowered but an artist still had other ways to make money with other skills, such as acting, designs (merch), production and things like that, but they still needed money to do those things. A 360 gave them (gives) access to several aspects of the game because that label has a great relationship with so many other aspects of entertainment, if you get your OWN lawyer and negotiate a good percentage, a 360 can be very beneficial. Just read up on it, they have this stuff in books. If a label loaned an artist one million dollars, you just have to read the contract …. Because fact of the matter is, it is THEIR one million dollars BUT they NEED YOUR talent, so get your own lawyer. It’s business, so the intent on business is profit for your work, a labels work is blowing you up with their resources, so they give you a million upfront and invest 4 million into you, they want that 5 million back plus a profit, wanting a profit isn’t wrong because who does someone a favor? You giving them exactly what they spent on you is them breaking even, that’s bad business …so they want a profit, the REAL issue is when they want to make large money off of you forever and essentially own you …. That should never happen. I encourage those that are interested in entertainment to learn the business side as much they did with the art, then hire their own lawyers and then work on a reasonable deal, but take the time to read a contract …what’s a few hours or days (however long you take to read it) and then a few weeks thinking over something that can impact you for YEARS? Take your time and if the label rushes you, they’re not for you.

Sadly no artist wants to actually be heard anymore nor are they passionate about making music now a days mfks just got a lot of people they wanna prove wrong like heavy "doubters","haters" and flaw family members who treated them like shit before they became famous ,most of all they don't even care about death and the consequences that comes with the industry they just wanna be remembered and be considered a "legend" but little do they know the world won't grieve forever they'll be forgotten in just a snap of a finger that's how powerful fame is after all it's not even about talent it never was it's about rituals and how much your willing to give up to get to where they wanna be 💯 and it's not just the music industry it happens in the corporate world as well.....As long as people are starving for greed and fame it's just gonna get worse welcome to the matrix ladies and gentlemen #JustSaying

Yes exactly 👏🏽 they don’t put their foot down and tell these labels how they want their music to sound, they just listen to what the labels tell them to do , because they’re desperate for fame and money. So will gladly be a puppet, that’s why the term “selling your soul” was made about artists cos that’s literally what they’re doing. Most artists music wouldn’t sound the way it does if they didn’t have to make big “radio hits “ neither would they sexualise themselves so much either. Lil nas x is prime example of an industry plant. He will do anything to be famous
