Isn't there an expression that goes something like "there are 2 kinds of reptile keepers: ones that have had a reptile escape and ones that are liars"? Unexpected things happen - a lock gets forgotten, a tree falls and damages an enclosure, or a fat, orange, stubby tailed cat busts through the screen on top of a corn snake tank. Who knows? All we can do is mitigate risks of escapes much as possible. Pointing fingers and casting stones is not in the spirit we should be treating each other.

"All we can do is mitigate risks of escapes much as possible." - that is the goal. Doing our best despite knowing we can never be 100% on top of the situation. People like to weaponize anything to bring someone down and help themselves. That is truly what the issue here is.

I’ve been in the hobby over 30 years now and I’ve met some down right slime balls but I have to say Ty is one of the greatest humans I’ve had the pleasure of meeting. I gave up Facebook so I’m not familiar with the drama going on but I’d have the say Ty is doing his absolute best for his animals and doing a better job than anyone I know in the hobby

Great video. All sorts of animals escape from all sorts of enclosures all the time. I've worked with animals professionally for 18 years in a variety of settings and it happens EVERYWHERE. Sometimes you just get lucky and it works out ok and/or no one hears about it.

I live in a place that has banned most extra large snakes because of a public fear of escape. They didn’t even make them permit only. I realize it’s Controversial, but I personally would have been ok with permits. So I know the snowball effect that any animal escape can have when it comes to laws. I am thinking we need more public education on the measures that keepers go to to keep escapes from happening. Especially in regards to animals that require permits. Hopefully if the public sees the hoops that people go though; and that the likely hood of escape is tiny it could ease some fears.
@ProfessorHerp

I understand public fear. But most of that fear comes from people not understanding reptiles and how non-threatening a lot of them are. Education is key. Permitting is a perfect balance imo.

Have not been to iguanaland, but it is a definite bucket list thing for me! Is it just me, or is it kind of weird that in the space of reptile KZitem there's all this drama! Like you expect drama in the beauty section of youtube, obviously celebrity news, political KZitem, but it's just like weird to me that reptile KZitem has so much drama. I don't know ty, everything I've heard about him sounds like he's a pretty solid guy! But overall, would love to just see everyone calm down a little bit. I think quarantine has made us even more aggressive, when it comes to online comments.

Hell, I had a baby peach throat monitor escape today from a cage that was locked...because the door can still move a little and leave a tiny gap. Kids must have messed with the cage looking at them. Escapees happen, luckily my wife caught the baby (and got bit twice in the process). I don't look negatively on Ty Park because of an escapee incident, it happens to literally everyone at least once. My overall opinion of the guy is positive, actually, I just think he should've thought the tegu raffle incident through better.
@ProfessorHerp

I don't know much about the raffle incident. I also acknowledge that with anyone high profile, mistakes they make are blown up much more. We need to remember they are just like us and will make mistakes. My escape incident happened by a juv Ackie squeezing between a gap in the slide glass doors. Not like I left the enclosure open or anything. Happens.

@@ProfessorHerp That is a very logical and respectable take. And yeah, escapes happen despite our best efforts. It's part of it and officials should understand and accept that, providing they're not particularly egregious.

I think everyone that is truthful would understand it happens no one is perfect.it isn't intentional letting an animal out they find their way and sometimes nature has a way of helping them he loves his animals and he does the best he can it's not easy trying to take care of of animals nobody else wants but he doesn't have a problem with it and he loves him give him a break if nothing else if you don't like how things are going lending my hand he might appreciate having a little help taking care of unwanted animals that are meaningful to him and he takes care of them when no one else will kudos show him some love not his he's a good guy ❤️👍🌹🤗

TY is a GEM for the reptile hobby! Part of the problem is that popular KZitemrs use terms like "conservation" and they absolutely aren't practicing conservation. Here's looking at you, Kenan 🧐 Now, I do like Kenan for general education and natural enclosures etc What does he conserve ? I'll wait. He's still breeding large tortoises that are flooding the Rescue centers in the US. TY is the definition of reptile conservation. He does it through education and fund raising.
@davidkelly1298
3 жыл бұрын
Tim..I have never been to Kamp Kenan but have watched his channel for several years. He has been taking care of many species that are endangered in their natural environments which I believe is what conservation is all about. It is also about teaching people about those endangered animals which he definitely does. So to see you question his envolvement in conservation leads me to think you haven't followed his channel very long.
@timbow1356
3 жыл бұрын
@@davidkelly1298 So, with that logic, anyone caring for an endangered or threatened species is a CONSERVATIONIST. Also, Kenan hasn't just had a FEW ERRORS over the last few years 🧐 He's lost dozens of animals. (many different scenarios) Bottom line, if you are losing animals because of the QUANTITY you keep, it's not the animals fault, now is it? Conservation ? He breeds and sells tortoises even though rehabs are OVERFLOWING with them. 75$ here and there!!🧐 If Kenan is a CONSERVATIONIST than the biologist who actually study the topic should have "Pet Tube" channels, as well.
@ProfessorHerp

Really don't like or appreciate this comment. Both Kenan and I do A LOT of conservation through large scale education (literally what you are commenting on right now). A part of that of course being awareness. Additionally, both these channels of raise funds and Kenan actually actively participates in preserving the FL ecosystem by going out and removing invasives/helping injured animals.

I had and still have lizards for 30 years, never had one escape until this year...then I got enclosures that front open with doors, one escaped. She leaned on front door and was just sitting on the shelf her enclosure is on. Thankfully my 8 year old son got up and went to say hi to our 15 lizards and freaked out, saying her door was open. We have cameras in that room and was able to see the door was not fully latched the night before, closed but just slightly, barely not catching, so yes our mistake. But still, she escaped. It does happen. Never happened to me ever because all my original enclosures open from the top, and we just slid the top screen open to do something and slid back. So chance was pretty non existent that would happen,
