I like the story of civil war overall, but hate how they make it seem like Tony is somehow in the right at the end. Like seriously Tony hired villains who were straight up murdering people when no one was looking, ignored Peter's request for help at first because it would look bad to help his dying aunt, and of course make a robot clone of his friend Thor. Said clone killing another hero after it went crazy. Although I do like how when Thor finally returned he very much so beat the brakes off of Tony for everything he did, and only left him alive out of respect for the friendship that they once had

Yh I never understood how people would support Tony Stark’s side. You’d think after all the dangers and threats to his private life and love interests Tony would understand superheroes cannot trust the system. Captain America giving up in the end was so in character for him. He would fight and sacrifice his life any day of the week but wouldn’t give up on a single civilian.
@Nyghtking
4 ай бұрын
@@barrondub1125 The reason people supported him is he did initially have a point. Heros have a tendency to leave destruction in their path and don't have to take responsibility for it, by being on a registry and their identities known they can be held accountable for anything that happens, as an example, someone like spiderman, if something bad happens only the mask is known, but with the registry everyone knows peter is spiderman and thus peter would be held accountable. The biggest issue is that heroes also tend to have villains who have no issue killing the people the hero cares about just to hurt them, and Tony seemed to forget that part, the identity is secret so that heroes don't have to worry about the people close to them being hurt and they can live a normal life when not heroing.
@barrondub1125
4 ай бұрын
@@Nyghtking i agree with you. Tony was being too idealistic and as usual didn’t think his idea or plan through. If the government system was sufficient there would be no need for heroes. Putting all the heroes in the government would lead to the same existing problem with government agents or cause larger problems e.g. mass cloning and weapon sizing of hero DNA.

I think I remember hearing that the writers initially intended for the Pro registration side to be the good guys (thus why Spider-Man, a character who can be seen as the main character of marvel in some ways started out pro reg). Either they changed their minds or so many people in real life found the Pro Registration side wrong that they changed the narrative. Or the writers didn’t think it out well at all if they intended Pro registration to be the good guys because they came off as sometimes worse than the actual villains.

The biggest problem with the Civil War is that a lot of the writers didn't know what "Registration" actually meant. Did it mean we go all Days of Future Past and force people to reveal their identities so that they can be put in camps? Did it mean having a registry of superhumans so that the government knows who hasn't done their state mandated first aid training? Did it mean superheroes get a plastic card saying they "technically" work for the government now? A lot of writers in seperate comic runs had different takes, portrayed the Civil War different ways and the mainline Civil War maintained that Tony was in the right but the message got lost in the weeds.

Because Spider-Man and other super powered individuals are still people at the end of the day. There is a what if comic where Captain America is made into a representative for supers and he and iron man handle supers for the government so that way any super mess ups would be dealt with by supers who would report to the president through captain America because supers trust cap.

One very small detail I will praise the filmmakers on is Batman's smoke bombs for fighting Superman. In their fight, the EFAP crew question why Superman can't see through it but in the montage of Batman preparing to fight, there's a quick shot of Batman putting the smoke bombs on a desk and printed on them is Pb, the elemental symbol for lead, so Superman couldn't see through the smoke. So congrats, Snyder. One little detail is pretty cool. Not so much the rest of your writing.

To be fair "Civil War" should probably be ret conned, and used as an example of where the current nonsense that destroyed western comics as they are now probably started, and a key example of why this cannot be allowed to happen going forward. To put it into perspective, the event had a long lead in. That said due to RL events they de-railed everything to turn it into a metaphor for "W" era politics, and had tons of characters acting entirely out of character. This is why a lot of people point out you can't take what it did to characters like Iron Man or Mister Fantastic seriously, because key plot points made no in world sense, or followed to continuity for those characters as things had to be interpreted metaphorically in the sense of real world "of the moment" politics as opposed to the world they were supposed to be in. Originally, as conceived, the entire conflict was going to be an entirely in-world thing, and based on Marvel logic. The idea was that both sides were equally right, and equally wrong, as opposed to what we got where there were clear right and wrong sides to this with one side being marked "racist" indirectly (Luke Cage talking to Iron Man) before it really started, and clear analogies to criticisms of the polices of "W" including things like "Super Hero Gitmo", which of course lacked any of the real world context of those things. For example, many people fail to realize we do have things like "Spy courts" and such where people are put on trial for high crimes without facing their accusers or anything due to the clearance levels involved and the need to preserve the identity of undercover agents and the like. People who were critical of Gitmo totally ignored this was not a regular "civilian" crime situation, a lot of people being sent there were being sent there due to the actions of the intelligence community. Your not going to say reveal who your man is inside Al Queda to get a terrorist off the streets, nor how they were getting that info. It was a scary thing, but not what it was presented as, and the bottom line was people doing it by definition could not defend themselves, allowing the media to run wild when they disliked it. It clearly illustrated why there were supposed to be national security limitations on the press, which were never invoked for fear of making things worse. At any rate in "Civil War" they didn't even quietly make the point some people realized in the real world. They simply had characters going full villain and locking people up in "The Negative Zone" entirely on their say so. If they do have a Marvel "Crisis" type event that does a full reboot, specifically to get rid of this era, explaining that both Cap and Iron Man were under some kind of outside influence retroactively and thus not acting rationally for the setting (neither was) would be a logical part of it. It should also be noted that as a lot of people pointed out, the two sides of this should have been the opposite of what they were at the time. They just wanted the image of Cap fighting the government at the time. If you know the characters, Cap would be the guy preaching responsibility and government service, he just would be. He believes in accountability. Iron Man is the hot head of the two who only went public more or less because he had to, and was always the guy doing crap under the table (secret projects and so on). Cap should have been the guy people would think of as Pseudo-Fascist, and pointing out all the times Iron Man screwed up (and it was a lot of times), and all the stuff he has going on under the table even when he is public and how some of that has gone wrong. That would have been an appropriate representation of the two sides by in world logic, but instead they did it wrong to begin with, and then entirely de-railed what they had going on with real world stuff. That said it was not as ridiculous as when they tried to make 9/11 an in-world event and just as big a deal, forgetting that buildings like that get wrecked all the time and there have been multiple invasions by demons and aliens and such. 9/11 would have just been a quick call to "Damage Control Incorporated" (seriously, it's a thing in universe). I mean, how was 9/11 worse than the X-men's "Inferno" event from the perspective of someone in that particular city? This is why they need to leave RL stuff entirely out of the comics even if loosely set in "the real world". :)

Never got to read Civil War cause I was too young at the time, can someone tell me whos side Magneto was with? That one image from this video has me thinking he was with Iron Man but everything I know about him tells me thats not right.
