Great interview! The only negative is I wish they would disclose a bit more about what's in the actual coating, instead of saying "inorganic polymers" - which can literally be almost anything. I get that they want to protect their IP, but every other company making coatings will disclose some information such as whether it's SiO2, Polysiloxane, SiN, SiC, a blend, etc.

Thanks again Josh for a great interview with Brian. And thank you Brian for taking the time in your busy schedule. I just had the opportunity to apply the Cerakote Pro Ceramic Coating on client's vehicle. The client was blown away with the result on the gloss and slickness. The only issue I had when applying the coating was the drip top was leaking out when applying to the applicator so the bottle was a little saturated with the product during the coating process. Would love to see some kind of clearer bottles so we could see how much product is left over after each coating. This helps with preparing enough product and knowing if there is enough product for applying to the next client's car. But only time will tell how the product holds out .. as we have had bad experience with other product claims. Thanks again guys !!!

Josh, great interview and discussion. In my recent experience with the professional coating, I am a believer. I’ve been in the Cerakote game for a while outside of detailing products and already knew the company produced top notch products. When they entered the detailing space under their branding, I had to try. I used all but the window coating so far. All of their product line has exceeded my expectations. Applying the professional coating on my vehicle, I rolled the dice and added a second layer 24 hrs later. The additional layer played seamlessly with the first. A day later the gloss appeared to be doubled and the slickness is insane. I chose to do this because of the abuse this vehicle gets daily compared to my personal car.

Anybody who applies ceramic coatings NEEDS to watch this video. The industry has gone absolutely rogue in making claims about longevity and hardness re ceramic coatings. I have known and used Cerakote products for years in the gun industry. This company did not pop up overnight. I know this company is new to car detailers but not to the coating industry esp since they made automotive ceramic coatings for resellers. I never got the impression the CEO was trying to sell something. He seemed to be genuine and educational in his approach so consumers/detailers etc knew more about what they were buying whether it be Cerakote or any other automotive ceramic coating. I had a conversation with Nolan at Cerakote and he was professional and knowledgeable. I have no affiliation with Cerakote. I appreciate you posting this video. Thank you Josh. Did not have 1.5hrs to watch, but couldn't stop. Watched it all and highly recommended to all. As DIY'er and one who keeps a car for years, super appreciated Q/A on refreshing when "water gets sticky". Plus, as CEO says, bead vs. sheeting is WAY less important to me than "ability to easily/swiftly blow panel dry". Sure, I like all things perfect, but 4/5ths chocolate bar is still way better than none. What a fantastic company and CEO. 4x👍 too! Well done, Josh!

Thanks for putting this together - both you and Cerakote. I applaud a US company trying the approach of giving it away for free to build momentum. That takes guts and cuts profits. Others throw that $ into advertising and jack up the price. I’m proud I continue to support the company. My only concern with the multiple bottles I purchased is that I will have to tell the client to use a PH neutral soap and avoid overspray from tire cleaners or even some bug/tar removers. On the consumer end, Turtle Wax has a high PH soap at the box stores. I would love to see a “normal” test with products typical people would use rather than a torture test.

If you apply at the perfect temperature down to the tenth of a degree, move in a cross hatch pattern at perfect 90 degrees, have the exact amount of milligrams on the pad per application and wait until the correct sweat beads per square inch are present then behold, it will withstand 5,000 washes of Xenomorph blood. If you don't, it will stop beading after one wash.

Thanks for taking the time to do this, it's appreciated. Interesting to know that it can be layered. He mentioned that you can do it immediately after the initial leveling. Is that the actual recommended time to layer it? Will the carrier solvents not damage or negatively impact the first layer when layering it that quickly? If we could get a clear answer for the time window of when it is too late and too soon to layer their coating, that would be awesome! I would also like to know what kind of chemical makeup the professional ceramic coating consists of. Is it Silicon Carbide, Silicon Nitride, Polysilazane, Polysiloxane, nano diamonds or multiple ones, etc.. I'm not looking for any concentrations or proprietary information, just what's in the coating. What is their recommended way of decontaminating the coating if/when it does clog? Just using pH neutral soaps will not the trick when there are lots of minerals or salts on the paint. Is an acid based water spot remover considered safe for this coating? Sometimes APC's need to be used in order to get rid of the majority of the road grime so that the contact wash can be executed more safely. Are APC's safe for this coating? What is the technical effective pH range on this coating? Is there an actual specific panel prep product that they did the testing with in order to get the best possible bond to the coating? Or is any detailing panel prep product enough? Any plans on releasing their own panel prep? Thanks.

I have never had a coating fail with a high ph soap. So what are we doing for maintenance? I get the why this video exist but there are outliers and questions left unanswered. Cool they do a composite coating , cool it’s affordable but maintenance , what are the properties of a ceramic coating that cerakote is selling etc. Appreciate the time you put in but I feel like It’s the wedding night and she fell a sleep im out here naked not getting any

I wholeheartedly agree. I asked the question how to maintain the coating, which you did ask, but I feel the answer was very lackluster. Maybe I should have been more specific and asked what is the best way to unclog the coating. I know Eddie coated a few panels and a week or two later he washed it with a pH neutral soap and it wasn't performing anywhere near as what it was when he first coated it. To me, that coating should not have been affected that drastically within that short time period.

I find it surprising that the CEO mentioned, 'So when an influencer makes a video that affects people, we have 200 employees that are affected when somebody says something about our product.' If you own a detailing shop with employees and promise a customer that Cerakote will last for 200 washes, but it fails prematurely, do you think the customer will blame Cerakote or the detailing shop? After all, detailing shops also have employees affected by such situations
@238scott238

I don’t think that was his point. I think he was referencing competitors pretending to be customers
@chrisbradley3224
9 ай бұрын
Appreciate you making this video and interview, but, I really don't agree with some of his points. First, if the coating can't handle a few rounds of alkaline chemicals, that's not good. Detailers and many enthusiasts are washing with alkaline snow foams with high pH regularly. It doesn't have to be perfect but it should be on par with other coating products. It's not the normal environment but it's informative. Second, if the coating "clogs" so easily, what good is it? Clogging resistance should be one of the most important traits of a coating. If I have to use an acid wash to unclog it every week what is the point? That also goes back to the chemical resistance...
@holelee7834
9 ай бұрын
It seems like they didn't add chemical resistance intentionally because that didn't in their mind fit the definition of "normal use". Just because you can doesn't mean you should and not for $30. Maybe they will make a more premium product line in the future that matches the high end stuff currently on the market that "does everything". I guess this is for people who want a "normal ceramic coating". They meant 500 washes clarified with neutral soap and that's all. You can hit other coatings with acid or alky and maybe it'll take it better, this one you shouldn't. Also, despite the torture tests, the Cerakote coating was still physically there it wasn't melted away. He also defined hydrophobics as being able to dry the car with a blower... Not in terms of beading / sheeting.

@@chrisbradley3224 A little early for me to say as I'm still testing the product, but so far i believe i have received a pro product that i installed myself and paid $30 (i have some spray on toppers and Q2 Wax that cost more than $30 and this is superior stuff as far as i can tell rn). And Yes, there is higher end coatings at a higher price from reputable names out there that we have heard about. In context, i don't feel cheated that i could pay $50 more for another coating to be able to wash my car with surface prep over the N914 that i already been using and planned to use with this. If it doesn't hold up with MY use case, then that's a different story. As for hydrophobics, as long as the car dries easily overall with minimal rubbing and less saturation of my drying towel i am not looking at the shape of the beads. I'm actually bummed that i am not going to be able to top this car for the sake of reviewing lol i have bunch of toppers that i want to use up and test. In hindsight, the reason I might've paid more for a higher end coating is for the piece of mind and because it's already been tested.

Woah that was a lot to absorb! WAIT.. Soooo, YOU CAN USE THIS ON TIRES??? I learn things everyday that’s cray cray! AWESOME INTERVIEW! Love the content! This is exactly what I have been waiting for! The industry’s benchmark sets the standards based on vigorous tests! That convo does shine a light on all professional coats out there. These are things I never knew existed. Basically, handle the surface of your paint with care and ensure you’re doing a consistent job. It's been almost two months since the product has been out and everyone is jumping the gun and doing a torture test on panels. Knowing that there will never be a need for that unless it got caught up in acid rain?? THAT JUST DOESN’T MAKE SENSE. WHY WOULD ANYONE USE THAT AS A BENCHMARK TEST?! There is so much info to look into now. For best results he said it best, to me it translates: go about your day, into weeks, and wash the panels with pH neutral soaps ensure that you dry and whip out properly using with or without a top coat is fine. (This is public testing big companies do this now these days to get multiple results. Due to everyone’s personal RL environments) In other words, don’t change your process by changing up chemicals, it will lead to clogging if not done correctly. Then you’ll have re-do the ceramic process all over again! So we need to give it a chance to breathe, you’ll see the results, and re-apply if needed because it's that easy! Make sure it’s cleaned and prepped for application...GOT IT! Thank you for the clarification on how to treat the coat! I absolutely love the Cerakote Trim restorer now that it is in a bottle form! Thank you for granting my wishes on that one, that stuff is SiiiiiCK! Suggestion on that Trim Ceramic “Bottle” it needs a smaller stout. Maybe an add-on to the current bottle for easy pouring or maybe use slightly bigger version of the “professional ceramic bottle”? Anyway, I can’t wait to see more products next year! Sorry about that I’m not sure what happened there and since it’s such a long video it would have taken too long to reupload. But yea he said do a proper wash and prep then you can apply it on top as it will adhere to itself. He did mention that you definitely can polish it down like you would traditionally but the coating will stick to itself

As a pro detailer, I can't use this for the simple reason the durability standard of 200+ washes translates poorly in the real-world. When spending $ on a professional coating, the main value proposition for the customer is durability. They expect this to be measured in time and with other coatings that claim years of durability, I at least have a talking point to then state realistic expectations on dutability applied to the specific customer. Factors such as where they park their car indoor or out (UV exposure), how much they drive, winter use or not, automated car wash frequency (which use high ph soaps), and overall how they plan to maintain it, affect the years of durability, I wouldn't know how to translate the Cerakote's 200+ wash durability into real-world expected durability time. I think this interview missed the opportunity for the CEO to give us a sense of real-world durability for the most common use case, say a daily driver parked outdoors in their location because I auspect, as with all coatings, the outdoor elements will wear out the coating well before 200+ ph-neutral washes.

Great interview...but wondering why did the audio get cut out & get garbled right at 56:20 when you asked if it would adhere to itself, a pretty important question I also wanted to know the answer to? Then, as soon as he answered, the audio came back @ 56:48...🤔 So how long after first coat should I wait before applying the 2nd & is there a max. time before I would need to abrade the 1st coat to get the 2nd to stick?

Ive coated 3 customers cars, got 5 bottles left. Wont be using any of the remaining bottles until I see some more results. At this point I'm very nervous and waiting for phone calls from those 3 customers . Looks like i might be spending many hours of my own time and money , redoing those vehicles. If a coating is clogging foam drying aids and slightly higher ph soaps then the product should not be sold as a Pro coating and not even as a consumer coating. I hope Im wrong as ease of use , slickness and gloss is very good. Ive also done a first wash with one customer and it has some of the best beading Ive seen. Fingers crossed.

I have been using the cerakote gun coatings for years on guns and car parts and it is the absolute best out there. I highly doubt they would put out a coating that is junk. I havent seen any KZitem channel torture test all the new coatings like they have this one. Why? Because they didn’t get a free bottle from any of those companies.

I am a fan of your channel as I am of several others. Taking the time to bring this information is important to alot of us. I bought the product and waiting to put on my Rubicon. I've used 5 different products on customers cars. I live in South East in the coastal Carolinas. We have hot summers and chilly winters. Sea salt vs road salts. Alot of different factors here. At the end of the day. Like you said. We car guys gonna reapply something to our vehicles every 6 mos or yearly. How can one use a 8 year coating. I'm 60 and never had a car more than 5 years. Yes I'm rambling but this video debunks some of "those torture" tests I'm sick of seeing basically. Give us good useful information. Like. If you really want streak free windows. A small squeegee works amazing if used properly. 😅 Thanks for your information. I'm steering away from some channels. They are getting personal. I could say THE name that's caused the uproar. But I'm cool. Bimbo needs to move on😂

Thanks so much! Yea the white car in the video that I’m going to be doing lives outdoors right near the beach. But we never get the road salts, however the owner of that car does do a lot of fabrication so there are always particulates in the air. The car is a year old and the iron remover I used on it turned the whole car purple then I still had to clay a considerable amount to get it all cleaned up. As far as the torture tests go, I can’t blame others for doing those. I’ve done them in the past as well as we are just trying to show a visible result.. but like my muscle milk on paint issue ha it doesn’t always transfer to real world applications. Again, myself and others are not chemists and all of our findings are anecdotal so that’s why I always keep an open mind and love hearing directly from brands and their chemists on what may be going on. Real world use and time are the best test so it will be fun to see peoples results over the next few weeks, months, and years

I watched a video with Pan and like some of you, I am not impressed. I was curious about why the question about hardness just got completely left behind, he explained how they do the test and simply chose not to give an answer? As one of the others comments suggested make a claim based on what is already out there if that’s all you have to go off of but make a claim. To say that all of the methods they use for test aren’t adequate for our product so we’re just not gonna answer the question.. really¿! I guess what I’m getting at is I took the non-answer of hardness as an admission that on a scale of 1 to 6 or even 9 or 10 with most car paints being a 2H that this product has an score of 0H. I’m sorry at this price point I really wanted to believe this was a good product but that’s just not good enough for me personally I won’t put my reputation on the line over a cost of $30 vs $130, I’ll pay the $130 pass that expense on to the customer and continue to do good work that people are impressed with and like not to mention as those same customers continue to be return customers my job is easier with a product that continues to work if it stops working or needs constant maintenance every 2 to 3 weeks when they come back that’s not acceptable. I don’t want customers coming back to me saying you said this was supposed to last for approximately 200 washes under ideal circumstances and it’s only been two months and I’ve got no beating and it’s clearly not even on my windshield anymore!? forget it not on my watch

I've seen the torture test video, he didn't use anything crazy that wasn't tested on other coatings, and they all passed, he just used different cleaners and different Detailing products, things that might get used on paint, not to mention he's using it as a standard of measurement for durability, showing it's weaker and less chemical resistant than other coatings, however that did look clogged in his video, and definitely affected. I've seen videos of this coating not holding up after one week on its first wash, with non harsh chemicals that typical detailers use everyday on Washes, there's a number of vehicles that it's not held up on. I'm going to try it on my own vehicles and see myself. Had high hopes from this brand, but don't have high hopes from what I've seen elsewhere... great video though!

I'll be adding it to my wife's car that I hand wash, and my dad's new truck that gets tunnel washed to see durability, they have a fanominal reputation and I love all their other products but this one seems like it might be falling short in their first round. Maybe a v2 will come out one day but I'm very interested to test it myself.

I've have been looking at different ceramic products for my black vehicles and its been difficult for me in making a choice on wish one will be the easiest for me to use. Just in the information the interview presented makes it easy to me in making this Cerakote Ceramic product the first choice to try as it will be my first to apply. Like to ask if you have any of the coupon codes available for the consumer. Thank you again for your amazing videos on how to detail ones own vehicle. I appreciate the information you pass on.

I thought every detalier had basic knowledge about cleaning products and what surfactants do to surface tension etc and how they affect the surface its on. Why you must remove the surfactants completely, eg rinse thoroughly. Otherwize its the surface behaviour of the surfactants you get and not the coating. What he described as "clogging" the coating.

Josh and (even Cerakote), This topic was touched upon in the video, but I think worthy of getting some further info and clarity. I hand wash my car every week. On an annual basis I do not see the need to do paint correction or even a minor refresh polish. 12 months after I apply this coating, what should I do before applying it again? For $30 no reason not to apply every 12 months….but would not like to have to do hours of prep work before I apply this second application.

1:20:42 absolutely agree that an automotive coating or detailing product should not require specialized training to be purchased. As a DIY’er I absolutely loathe companies that require training and business licenses just to use their best products. I get it that derailing businesses need to have an edge, but it really takes away a lot of potential for the company.

After watching's pans 1 month update I was highly skeptical of the coating, and well I should have been. I applied this coating, waited 9 days and washed the vehicle, and the hydrophobics on the roof were basically gone, it has already started sheeting. The rest of the car is great besides one panel on the passenger side fender of the vehicle which one might attribute to user error. However, calling the ENTIRE roof user error? I'm not so sure. Be careful out their with this coating, it may not be worth your time.
@imjoshv

Interesting that the roof went first. I’ve seen other videos where the door panels seem the most affected. For me in San Diego I’m actually getting some better results than others which leads me to think it’s a curing issue within different climates. Myself and a few others got together to talk about this and will have a new video this Wednesday. The ones in colder climates are having more issues. I’m sure Cerakote will be addressing this cause installation seems like it’s a problem. Not user error but that the coating may not be curing properly in certain climates
