Corporate culture in India is NOT the same as Pakistan in terms of elite capture. Elites are not just dabbling in unproductive sectors of economy eg real estate and subsidized sugar. They are making pharmaceuticals, automobile parts, refineries, chemicals&fertilizers, vaccines and so on. This has been the case for decades, long before PM Modi came to power. Secondly since you referred to Modi government, you should know that he has actively invested and accelerated last mile delivery of service to the weaker sections be it farm to district roads, quality of district hospitals, vaccinations, maternal health, access to electricity, cooking gas, banking, toilets, health insurance, piped water and skills infrastructure to farflung rural areas. This helps to empower the weakest section of society and promotes upwards mobility and reduce elite capture. Thirdly PM Modi has actively worked on improving the startup ecosystem. There are thousands of dollar millionaires in the country today whose parents were poor or lower middle class. This upwards mobility within the country and without emigration is the opposite of elite capture. Lastly, PM Modi's administration has made it much easier to invest in the stock market by increasing transparency and reducing fraud risk and thereby allow people to invest in areas other than gold and real estate. There used to be 37 million in the retail sector of Indian stockexchange 8 years back. Now there are 100 million people. By contrast this number was very low to begin with in Pakistan and further shrunk to barely 0.25 million.

Modi government encouraged private equity in projects of lower/middle class talented kids with great education/ideas and there have been 38 unicorns in last 5 years (companies with greater than billion dollar valuations). The exact opposite of chrony capitalism. Did Ambani or Adani become billionaire after Modi came to power? No. They had been billionaires for decades - how exactly are they chronies of Modi? In fact Modi ensured that each household has electricity, toilets, bank account cooking gas through length and breadth of country. There was no discrimination based on language, religion, caste. Since Muslims were amongst the most disempowered, they were the biggest beneficiaries. Imran Khan spoke of 5 million affordable homes and so far has delivered 671 homes. Modi has delivered over 40 million pucca affordable homes. You can also look at how widespread Aayushmann Bharat has been in terms of broadening access to health insurance. Right now he is focusing on getting piped drinking water to every single home. More homes have got piped drinking water in last year than had got in prior 70 years. The bankruptcy law brought in by Modi government in fact ended the prior habit of businessmen to treat Bano loans as quasi equity. Many such as Ruias lost their Crown Jewels such as Essar Steel. Modi government seriously invested in railway safety - closed all unmanned railway crossings, automated signaling and much more as a result of which there has been no railway accident in last 2 years despite 23 million people traveling in railways daily. Compare that to situation in Pakistan. As many people travel by train in 3 days in India as the case in a full year in Pakistan. The poorest and most disempowered people’s lives have improved dramatically under Modi (wouldn’t your life improve if you got toilets, bank accounts, electricity and cooking gas) and that is why he was re-elected with a bigger majority in 2019. Do you know that 80 crore people got free wheat for a full year during COVID?

It’s not that, It’s the democratic spirit of the government in power. For example, there wasn’t a leader of opposition for last 10 years, which govt said that can’t be because none of the political parties have 10% of the seats, which is not the only criteria to have leader of opposition. The number of laws going to standing committees drop down to I think around 15%. These are just two examples. So what he is saying is about the democratic spirit of the govt in power.

I don't get it why commentators in Pakistan think Indian democracy is finished because of BJP. Modi isn't invincible he has lost state level elections even when his popularity was at its peak and that too big states. That the national level opposition party the Indian National Congress is adrift regarding leadership allows BJP to dominate the scene at national level. Modi and his party have been given a run for their money by regional political leaders. If democracy in India was in danger or dead why would Modi and his party contest in these elections headfirst to begin with.

India ki middle class bohot smart hai koi bhi bas religion ko beech mein nhi lata sbko pehle apni development/ progress chaiye taaki uska future bdyia ho ske . Aur govt. Kya kregi vo public pehle se pta hota hai kyuki gesture reflect actions . 370 abolish hone se 1 hafta pehle hee sbko pta tha. Same for kisan andolan sbko pta hai ki govt. Decision change nhi kregi and its in court so they will decide what will happen . Babri masjid decision was also done by court ab turkey ki tarha thodi hai ki ji ye famous wala church ab masjid hai 🙄.
