Proud Swellendam boytjie here. I was 8 years old when Stefan made his debut in 1998. I remember how proud the local community was of Stefan back then. To this day I make reference of Stefan when explaining to others where I come from. I am living now in NZ and still make that reference!

That's a great story, Nico. I haven't been to Swellendam in a very long time but no doubt Stefan remains one of the town's favourite sons.

A another great interview Peter- Stefan was one of the best wings SA produced. He should've played many more tests for the Boks.

Glad you enjoyed it, Sean. Stefan was a great player. I think one of the reasons he didn't play more was because Breyton Paulse emerged at about the same time as him so it was always going to be a tough contest between those two for playing time.

Amazing how he can ramble off those old scores and statistics of players. Clearly a clever guy.

It's a gift ... but also a curse! I have something similar ... I can remember Currie Cup scores from 1993 but don't ask me what my wife said 30 minutes ago!

Wow his English is great for someone that says he is Afrikaans. Deceptively fast and very honest player.

I was there when Stefan played in his 1st test in 1998 in Bloemfontein against Ireland. The first and up to date the only Springbok test I have attended live.

What a special memory! I'm almost embarrassed to say that it took me until 2008 to finally attend a Springbok Test match! Can you believe it? And I think I've only been to seven. I need to rectify that stat!

It was such a pleasure watching and listening to two intelligent and articulate students of the game. As you invariably do Peter, you pose smart questions in a way that most of your guests could not get it over their souls to duck answering them. You had a superb 2023, delivering excellent productions in such a smooth and seemingly effortless way. May your channel continue to flourish in the new year!

Jan, this is one of the best messages I've ever received - thank you so much! It really did bring warm feelings to my heart. I very much appreciate it. Thank you so much and I'm so happy you get a little bit of value out of my channel! All the best!

I could be off base, but I think if we really wanted to, he could have played for the Boks some more. There was a time when he was moved to 15 for the Sharks, and we had a crisis at fullback, but he never got a look in. I think he could have more than done a job at the back for the Boks

I agree with you Thomas. After he switched to 15 he actually played some of his best rugby in my opinion but I think by that stage Jake White, and later Peter De Viliers, had made their Springbok choices and there was no place for Stefan. Pity because he could have had added great value I think.

Scotland was the team the Boks lost to in 2002 at Murrayfield

Quite right, Sean. I think you're on a 100% record when it comes to the trivia question! Might need to make the questions tougher.

This guy was so mint. It was a shame that politics kept him out of more matches. But that political interference has paid off now.
