Honestly, I don’t think so because it doesn’t benefit the Republicans to resolve the problem now and I also feel the Democrats now need to resolve the problem after allowing so much illegal immigration. If things didn't suck down there, far fewer people would want to cross over, and the cartels wouldn't have a profitable business model to facilitate those crossings. It would be more effective for us to address our problem by recognizing the root cause of the problem and developing a comprehensive strategy that includes the root cause, but that takes time, money, foreign assistance, diplomacy, intelligence, and political will. All of these things are in short supply. Keep in mind that I'm NOT commenting on border walls, razor wire, police, harsh detention & deportation practices, etc. (others have already done so). I'm talking about being smart about this.

Americans drug addiction and thirst for cheap labor has nothing to do with half the points your making but some of your points are valid. Get Americans off drugs and get the farmers, home builders and factories to quit hiring the people that are not here legally then more people might take this fake outrage about immigration and drug cartels more serious other wise a lot of people are going to think these are just racist dog whistles used by right wing propaganda machine to rile up white people. Look who supports these republicants, farmers, home builders, owners of factories and on and on and these are the same people who use the cheap labor they are the ones using the most drugs. They support one cause and use the people they say they are against, make it make sense, it doesnt. The drug cartels are American drug addicts fault. Without the American drug demand the cartels wouldnt be so strong America is the root problem.

I have the best solution for this problem.very simple.fine the companies that hire people with out legal papers to work here. In Ohio we have Alside a window company, Case Chicken farm and many other like Rubber made.. The government won't do that because those companies pay with check and everyone get a check with all the taxes discount especially rhe social security taxes that the administration accept with the knowledge that the social security number that they use does NOT exists and they know that nobody is going to receive a pension from that money that is over 12 billions dollars a year. Chris Cuomo talk about that in your program. All that money goes to pay the social security to all the retired workers.

I especially liked the way he acknowledged the realities about Title 42 and how it was more related to the timing of Covid and not due to Trump or Biden being "better" or "worse" on immigration. Your questions to him brought out the relevant issues and represented the perspectives within our political discourse.

I was surprised by Chris's question why can't other countries self-administer asylum. In countries where political asylum is sought, it's common for people to be imprisoned or even executed for trying to leave the country. I had a long conversation with a man from western Africa who went through that, but was fortunately able to escape after being imprisoned. I also worked with a young man from India who was beaten and imprisoned by the police, with his father. His brother had been killed by them. They had complained about a 10 yr old girl being forced to marry someone; the police killed his brother, then they complained to the higher ups who sent the complaint back to the police that killed his brother. They then beat his father and him and threw them in jail. He'd been in school for astrophysics in AZ and was immediately thrown into detention when he tried to return after 6 months in Indian prison. He tried to hang himself in Adelanto detention facility. Politicians just want to play games regarding immigration issues. They don't want to stop immigration. Our economy depends too much upon it. If they offered work permits to those seeking asylum, the US could be earning money from the immigrants, but it's easier to do whatever they like with the immigrants if they have no citizenship rights. Finally American citizens need to remember that the issues with cartels wreaking havoc throughout the Latin American triangle are due to the actions of the US de-stabilizing those countries. The immigration issues exploded once the US led coups in these countries.

If your car is extremely low on oil - you don’t continue to drive. If it’s broken- you don’t continue the course! We need to shut the border down until we can take care of our own. We have a moral obligation to do right by our citizens. Once we refurbish the system- then we can do limited quantity. I use this analogy- “You lock the windows and doors to your house- yes?” Is it not the same- you only want the people you have vetted and choose to enter, you are concerned about you and your families safety. Border- same thing on larger scale!

@8:19 I'm a big fan of Paul; that said the idea behind a wall is not a "set it and forget it" deal. Nor is it supposed to be a fail proof impenetrable barrier. Just like a serpentine barrier he likely used in the military, the point of a wall is to slow crossers down which buys valuable time to identify and respond. While we don’t need a wall on every inch of the border, every inch of the border should be difficult to cross and time-consuming. Any area that can be traversed rapidly means you have to add considerable depth to your patrol/surveillance area in order to achieve acceptable probability of identifying and responding. The border is already super long (just imagine driving across 4 states, now add the curves).... imagine the massive force you and armada of surveillance assets you would need in order to cover every inch at least once every 10 minutes. The wall not only increases the amount of time crossers are stuck in the surveillance lanes (ie vicinity of border) thus decreasing surveillance/patrol 'net' area, but will also limit the number of paths of least resistance - thereby allowing border patrol to identify 'hot spots' and preferentially focus surveillance and patrols in these areas. Walls also provide infrastructure for surveillance equipment and once again buy valuable time for a response once crossers are identified. All of this is ESPECIALLY critical for catching those who will not turn themselves into border patrol because they are either smuggling drugs in/weapons out OR they know they wont pass a check (terror watch list, criminal history, etc.)

You want to slow people from crossing the border, get americans off drugs get the ruling class to quit hiring people here illegally and then use the same illegal immigrants as a politcal talking point. Americans cant cry about a fake border crisis that they are creating. The people that own the factories, farms and construction companies are the same ones supporting the fake outrage. You cant complain about illegal immigrants and then hire them or cant party with the cartels drugs and then complain about the cartels smuggling your drugs over here. People need to stop the fake outrage there's obviously a high demand for what's coming across the border and it's not just in demand by democrats or liberals I'm pretty sure there is a lot of republican owned farms and factories who cry then use both..No demand no need for wall.

When you get 2000 illegal crossings a day increasing the number of immigration judges and staff won't help. Ideally a court can resolve 1 to 3 cases per day. For every resolved cases, there are 2000 new crossings. I think the wall that is constantly patrolled is the start. Secondly, leave the international conventions and make immigration laws that make sense for your country. There is more...

Every country has a wall for a border. It's common sense, it's literally the first level of security, not the only level. It's just to make it a little more controlled. Wouldn't you agree that it makes sense to have a wall instead of nothing? Doesn't seem like it should be controversial. One more thing I take isssue with is as an American tax payer, I do not subscribe to paying for all these illegal immigrants who want a better life. I understand they want a better life. I want a better life as well which is why I work and why I am forced to pay taxes. We simply cannot have a blank check to take care of all these people. We have so many issues in America that this money needs to go towards. It's all being spent on the seemingly endless border crisis with this administration. I believe we temporarily have to close the border until we can get it under control. They must remain in home country until approved. If they pass illegally you will be liable for the resources needed to get you back home or face imprisonment. Simple watch how fast it stops. If you have a true asylum case than you will not be held liable. Most of these migrants are coming here to work using their our valuable resources and sending money back home to their family in their home country. They have no intention of becoming a us citizen or learning English. They are only here until the scam is up. They rep their home countries flag yet say they seek asylum it makes no sense. What happened to immigrants who were honored to become American

Saying the wall “only helps a little bit but can be bypassed” doesn’t make a lot of sense to me. Lock yourself out of your house and call a locksmith. You’ll see that the lock on your front door can be bypassed in literally 5 seconds. Does that mean you shouldn’t have one? Better yet, a better analogy would be the door itself. A door can be easily bypassed so why don’t you just not spend the money to put a front door on your house? Since it’s so easy to bypass that you might as well not have one???

👋New sub here! Chris's style of journalism is what I think so many people crave, mostly A-political, lets talk about the facts! Facts: 1. The current system dates back to 1951 (that spans every administration). 2. Pandemic created a huge pent up demand for USA immigration. 3. Mass migration used by Cartels to profit and disrupt Border patrol efforts to catch the drug smugglers. 4. Many USA based companies need the migrant workforce so, they would prefer politicians not to fix the problem. 5. Every physical barrier erected on the border, the Cartel has a solution to get around it. 6. During the Trump administration, we paid Mexico a massive amount of money to keep the migrants on their side but, wait I thought Mexico was supposed to pay for the wall .. instead we paid them! 7. Only the politicians (D&Rs) can fix the border issue but, why would they actually want to do what's right for the American people and lose one of their major talking points! 🙄

I agree with Paul too a point he's right in some respects but wrong in others I retired in 2022 from CBP and I have worked the Southern border the Northern Border and the International Airports. The Asylum process is a structured process which begins with a intial interview when the person claims Asylum and then there is criminal history done on the person or family members and then when the report is done its given to a first line supervisor then its given to a chief for review and then if your at a Airport it gets sent to the Port Director for review and given the ok. But what usually happens most of the time is when we search there luggage they usually have a job already lined up a lot of money on them and when we look at there phone there are usually txt messages on there phone for what there suppose say too the officer incase there caught . Most of the time they claim that their sick and now we have to take them too the hospital and we have know other choice they could be there for days until there better and cleared by a doctor and we send them on the next plane back home . But Chris makes a good point people are skipping the process and not doing it properly and this administration knows it , what the solution is I don't know the damage has already been done , but one more thing I have too say I have never seen it this bad ever in my 22 years in CBP.. When it comes to dealing with human beings , right-wing ideologies are not the answer. We need to be more emphatic when trying to get to the root problem and dealing with problems. That's why left-wing ideologies outlast right-wing ideologies. That's why their "solutions" only sound good on paper and never work in real life.

Let’s set up a national national guard training along the border as well as regular military.coast guard can patrol the international waters of the rio grande. Great desert training , great intercept and detain training , good interrogation training . A wall ? Maybe but it needs to be monitored with surveillance and motion detection. Ps most fentanyl comes into our seaports from Asian countries mainly China .

The border isn't open. You can't just walk across the border without the paperwork to be processed. Those without paperwork are sent back

Paul seems to have emotional and personal attachment to the illegals coming into America. I wish the main stream media would round up a bunch of boarder agents( those on the front lines who are seeing first hand) and ask them what they think will work. Either you’re legal or illegal..simple…this guy talking about using a facility like Rikers Island, how much does that cost tax payers?

I think Chris hot the asylum issue right on its head. As with all programs the actual qualified individual seeking asylumis in line with a large amount of people who are bogus. i.e. everyone who wants in just claimes asylum, nomatter what hte real issue is, to get in flooding the system.

I really begin to wonder about the absence of critical thinking skills possessed by our countrymen/women who we've elected to protect and enhance our personal interests as Americans. Identify the problem(s). Produce possible solutions. Debate best solution w/o partisanship. The sad fact is our elections are based on emotion, and not on electing people who are capable of using critical thinking skills backed up by demonstrable experience. We elect fools
