"The game cannot improve without feedback." This is my favourite line! And thanks for the shoutout! ♥I wondered if you were going to dive a bit more into the critical aspect of the community, perhaps pointing out how more videos criticize than embrace the game today. As the people upset grew from small and then big. Ginny O, Daniella Moonstar, Siren the Gamer, Denise, Star Stable Updates, Abigail Pinehaven, Eleanor Nightwalker, Minatozy, and myself I feel make up a decent part of that community - Although Abigail and Eleanor have both moved on :) . I specifically started making videos in 2020 due to the fact that the game had very few voices actually speaking out about the problems. Since then, the 'critical' community has grown exponentially. As proven by your series ^^ (Not saying I started the trend, I think it was around the time everyone just got fed up with the game. Cause in April 2021 Glassdoor reviews were brought to light and THAT sparked a lot of upset) Also, I think we need a new term "Scribes". While the Knights duke it out, the scribes sit around the table and try to find solutions. XD But awesome series!

What you said about toxic positivity is soooo important, i remember before the ambassadors program, all my favorite sso youtubers were honest and had unique opinions about the game, now everyone is just repeating the same things over and over, shuting down anyone that has a different opinion. It makes me sad to see our community change so much like this 😢

Your videos are of great value to me, as a player that has been growing up with the game. Just recently I have started to learn more about the history of SSO, getting to know all the previous games. I've noticed how much, in my opinion, the quality of the experience itself has changed for the worse. The feeling of a slight fear and mystery that accompanies old comics or "Starshine Legacy" games is unique, and it's a shame that this feeling was eliminated later on in Star Stable Online, just to make the game more children friendly. Now when I feel nostalgic, I find comfort in places/situations that used to make me anxious as a kid, because these elements have not been changed along with the iconic places, characters, etc. As an example, I'll give The Sleeping Widow in Forgotten Fields, Damascus Mine in Moorland or a UFO crash site. They look identical to how I remember them from years ago, which turns into an irony; places that made me fearful years ago now make me feel comfortable. This sums up how much Star Stable has depreciated in the eyes of older players. I hope I'm not the only one with that feeling, seeing how many people agree with what you say on this chanel. You're doing some great work, keep it up!!

I slightly disagree over the "add a boy player!". But, for a different reason. In terms of lore. Okay, so adding a male character. What would it mess up (in my own respectful opinion)? A already mangled story (The original story being about a sisterhood, and a implied reincartnation of the godess). And it most of all wouldn't make sense for Aideen, themself? Herself? to be reincarnated in to a boy. (in my opinion you can disagree with me on this. I say this since Aideen is implied to be female). While yes, adding a boy model for our character would be beneficial for all the boy players. I do feel like it def would throw a wrench in a already watered down ruin story. But that's just my thoughts on the matter.

Yup I agree. Plus when I think about the amount of games I like that don't have female playable characters I just really don't see the big issue. There's so many games with only male characters and nobody complains about it as much as in star stable to my knowledge. Lore wise it just makes sense and I always like that part about the game. The empowerment and sisterhood is something so powerful (if done properly) and for me it was a way of feeling the power of friendship since I oftentimes don't get along with many girls in real life.

Why can concorde reincarnate as a female horse but aideen can’t as a male ??? SSO proves we can have male characters if they just tried

I think I agree with you lorewise on this, and coming so far maybe we also need continuity in the lore and story (even though it is interesting that they have changed a lot contentwise, which makes me confused of where they are going). As previous speaker mentioned, there are games, like Legend of Zelda, where we can only play as a boy (but where it is equally as fun playing). Therefore we could still have a nice experience with it since it is a sisterhood. For online games though, it feels more rare to have only one option. Are there more examples like SSO on this? For this reason, it's a little sad that there were no boy character in the beginning, so that SSO didn't need to change years of content. On a positive note, I am truly happy we got SSO, which in my opinion have been a role model taking girls interests and perspective seriously.
@letstalk7961
Жыл бұрын
@@rosemoonbridge8886 you're right. In my original comment I did not take into consideration that SSO is an online game. Therefore it is unusual you have only one gender option. The games that I was thinking about were all single players so there it does make more sense it's a set scene and everything. I guess if you play SSO more for the online factor than the quests like I do, it does feel excluding and limiting that it's only female characters. But I'd still be sad for star stable to completely change their original storyline because I think exactly that original message was something that empowered a lot of younger girls and made them feel brave and strong which was a beautiful message.

Haha, the picture of the pencil case at 1:25 is actually a picture i took and shared in a swedish sso facebook group around 2015/16, which then got shared by a blogger if i remember correctly. I've never been an ambassador, nor gotten any gifts in any other ways from sso: that pencil case (together with most of, if not all of the other stuff at 1:24) were simply sold at various stores here in sweden around that time! :)

Thank you so much for acknowledging the trans players of this game. I've been playing SSO for eight years, but in no community have I felt so alienated. Of course boys were never discouraged from playing SSO from the company's perspective, despite only offering feminine player models, but the community plays a big part in whether someone feels allowed to play.

I'm what people would say as being on the 'negative' side of the SSO community. Although I try and not interact as much, as I don't want to involve myself with it due to me wanting to branch out to other things. Despite SSO being my childhood. I am honestly really tired of being negative towards SSO, I really am. I don't want to be negative, I don't think anyone wants to be negative towards this game, but like you said, the game cannot improve without feedback. And while yes, SSO has been improving bit by bit (from what I've seen) the negatives still outweigh the positives. As someone who falls under the trans umbrella, it is honestly disappointing to see that they will not be adding masculine body types. It's just really saddening to me, because they're trying to be 'inclusive', meanwhile shoot themselves in the foot by saying "the story is about a girl's bond with her horse" or "We want to empower women", all the while the game now refers to you by gender neutral pronouns. And not only do the new player models not have the body I have, but they also look like... Toddlers. Which, as a young adult playing this game, makes me slightly uncomfortable. I know this is a kids game, but have you ever seen a kid want to play as a kid character in an online video game? Not really. At least I wouldn't have wanted to do so, as a kid. And a lot of people in the community seem to share the same opinion. It honestly makes SSO seem like they're tone-deaf, they might see the criticism, but refuse to acknowledge it. All and all, really find this documentary series interesting, it's very well put and nice to listen to. I legitimately agree with most of everything that you've mentioned. Well done!

THAT. We are negative because the game and its management/team doesn't inspire anything positive for the moment. There'll always be a bit of negativity, as well as now a bit of positivity, but right now it's the negative side which is dominant. The problem is that if they accepted to listen and think a bit more about their community, it wouldn't be as negative as the situation we're now. The rise of dark knights is the direct consequence of the toxic positivity imposed by SSE and their white knights on regular neutral players. There's nothing worst than being silenced or forced to be positive, it never ends well. Light can't exist without darkness, it just needs balance to be good.

Awesome video, as per usual! Personally, I think SSO youtube took a sharp nosedive around the time Star Stable Updates uploaded the Glassdoor video. Everything went downhill from there. Creators made numerous videos about, it was all over social media, and from that point on, players become so increasingly critical to the point it was almost ferocious. I'm not a white knight, or a dark knight. Just neutral, I suppose -- I have my own opinions on things, but prefer to watch from the sidelines.

trans man star stable player here, ive been playing even before i knew i was trans (early 2010s). personally i havent experienced any transphobia in the game or in the star stable community but i dont really engage with the community besides follow star stable's insta, but i definitely have had a bit of discomfort as playing as a female character. im used to it by now and i just try to have fun with it, but it wouldve been nice to have a male character. horses and horse riding being seen as feminine has also caused me discomfort relating to my gender dysphoria, but thankfully i havent had any issue from any players in game or out of game, but thats probably because i dont talk to anyone in game LMFAO

It makes me a little sad to hear about how it was and what the game now is, game wise and community wise. I was a little scared to plan something on making sso content, because I am so new and to hear about the shrinking youtube potential gave me less motivation. but this video gave me more hope. Next to that, its just fun to make video's, especially on a game I enjoy playing now so much!

Well, I am male. It can be risky. I played with my family, we belonged to the same riding club but outside of that I avoided playing with others unless we had sort of random encounters that ended up with casual conversation and then actually competing or doing some tasks together. But 95% of the time I play with my wife and daughter and tend to completely avoid even talking to other people.

The excuses made for not adding male characters continue to astound me. "It'll ruin the story!" Except, it won't, and that's entirely SSO's fault. Thanks to Concorde, we know it's possible (although rare) for starbreeds to be born as mares. Hell, we can choose the gender of our starter horse without the sky falling in. There's no reason why the same can't apply for soul riders, too. "It'll encourage romance roleplays!" Romance roleplays have existed since the dawn of time without the inclusion of male characters. I'll be honest and say that I've never felt empowered by SSO because of my character's gender. If anything in SSO ever has empowered me, it's the inclusion of larger body types, their inclusion of disabled characters or their inclusion of openly LGBT characters. Not the exclusion of male characters.
