How did he not win an Emmy for Thomas More though! He had the best storyline in season 2 - with a final scene that made the world tear up

This scene is so well written you forget that he is just an actor!

Two other witnesses at the trial said that Thomas More never actually spoke with the other guy. The testimony was very dubious. They had nothing on him, but Henry wanted him dead so the outcome was predetermined.

Based on the series, it was actually Anne and her family who urged the king to kill him..Henry was uncertain..Anne even wanted Katherine and Mary dead..this is why I do not feel sorry for Anne at all

Thomas even said “If what Richard has said is true, may I never see the face of God”. Strong words for a man who was about to be killed for his religious convictions.

@@daniellak.7521Afaik, this was a decision by the series. Henry did blame Anne for More's death, as he definitely regretted killing him later on, and said that she was a witch who had cast a spell on him. But Henry was turning against Anne anyway at this point, and she was a convenient scapegoat. If she had produced a son, Henry would have found someone else to blame. Henry's execution of More was the beginning of his mental unravelling. The injury he sustained the next year, which triggered Anne's premature labour and the stillborn boy (just to make it worse - he finally got a boy, but a dead one), and the recurrent pain the injury caused him, pushed Henry further over the edge. Killing Anne and her brother was like getting rid of the last shred of sanity Henry had left.

They did portray Richard Rich quite well throughout the series. That guy was a political genius. In a time when many other top Tudor era officials clung too tight to one religious leaning, Rich not only avoided being purged, but continued rising in position through the reigns of three monarchs (Henry, Edward, Mary), all of whom had radically different religious policies. Hell, the guy personally played a role in repressing Mary, yet managed to throw his support to her when she ascended to Queen.

Richard Rich was one of the most clever politicians of the Tudor Era. He constantly shifted his views to line up with wherever the political and religious winds shifted. When reformation was on the ascent at various times during Henry VIII's and Edward VI's reigns, he persecuted Catholics and generally backed protestant reforms. When Henry VIII veered back towards Catholicism, and during the reign of Mary, he veered towards Catholicism and persecuted protestants. While many of the leading people in power in England were inflexible, often losing their power and their lives, Richard Rich died of old age at 70. Not only was he never persecuted, his power grew more or less unabated throughout his life. Heck, he even persecuted Princess Mary for her Catholicism when she was out of power, only to win her favor when she became Queen of England.

This was a total nonsense. Cromwell made it possible by telling the king what he wanted to hear.
