I'm watching this and tying it right now. I'm using a countersunk bead, since it's not going to be sliding up around that jig bend. Thanks for the pattern, looking forward to trying it in a few days. Great videos.

This is a perfect solution to salmon and steelhead in NY when i want to get down and dont want an ounce of lead whipping around my noggin. Order pending.

Hi, I also tie this fly for fresh run Steelheads but I cover the bead with two coats of cheap red nail colouring, works well. I have tied it on to Black Magic M4 series of hooks using a 4.6mm tungsten bead for the very deep pools. I use the BM hooks as I can’t find any decent barbless jig hooks. Tight lines.

Making the bead red is a good idea (to simulate the "blood dot." If I recall correctly, tungsten beads come in red. That would save a step.

Great video, thanks for sharing. You have a lot of different colors of the material on your online shop. What colors have you found to be the most successful on trout?

Had some awesome fishing on a fluro pink tungsten taco egg today. Including some sightfishing where I could see the trout take the egg, it's like dry fly fishing under the water :-)

@@tacticalflyfisher3817 super durable as well compared to the soft rubber eggs that I normally use. Also really good to have some weight in it.

Could you explain why you use jig hooks for this pattern? Also, what is your preferred brand of jig hook these days for eggs? Thank you for the exciting and productive idea.

I roll this fly along the bottom a lot during the winter. The Jig hook helps avoid a few extra snags. I like the Orienstun 5241 in sizes 16 and 18 a lot for this pattern.

Thanks, Devin. If you weren't worried about hanging up on the bottom, what hook would you prefer? BTW, I love this egg pattern. It has caught a lot of fish for me.

I'd still be using the 5241. It has held fish very well for me. The 5240 is too thin though and tends to bend out.

Thanks for the reply, Devin. Could you tell me if the Orientsun 5241 would also be your preferred hook for non-egg, traditional nymph patterns (say, size 10-16) tied on a jig hook?
@tacticalflyfisher3817

I use the 5241 for size 16 and 18 and the 5240 for larger sizes.

Hi Devin, when you fish the egg pattern in water that doesn't have salmon, do you downsize the pattern to replicate trout size eggs? Thanks very much

I haven’t had waters with salmon in them since I left Oregon so all my eggs these days are trout sized.

that flyline to leader knotless connection how strong is it I saltwater fish in Florida

I've talked to people who have used it for saltwater successfully. I would rough up the inserted leader before gluing it to help the glue hold better. Then I would definitely test it before you use it in the salt.

Devin, what colors do you most recommend? Thanks and tight lines.

I haven't tried all that many of the colors to be honest as I'm typically targeting wild trout eating natural egg colors instead of using them more as an attractor pattern for stocked trout. With that in mind, fl. peach, fl. cheese, and sockeye have been best for me.

Similar to the "nuke" egg, which has either dubbing over lead or a glass bead for the nucleus. Is there anywhere in the US that sells the Eggstacy material? To avoid overseas shipping charges.

I probably use 2.3 and 2.8 mm beads the most but most of my local egg fishing is done during low water in the fall and winter
