When it comes to performing acoustic finger-picked guitar the hand doing all the plucking must be highly trained so it will do its job correctly. This is important because as finger-style guitarists we need to ensure our most accurate note plucks upon each string.
To accomplish this, the pluck-hand needs training to float expertly above the strings - ready to pluck the correct string at all times yet remain completely relaxed. If the hand is not relaxed, it will stress, and that will cause performance and timing issues.
The training that is involved with mastering the use of the pluck-hand must include exercises that develop accuracy. The plucking hand fingers need to build a natural sense of knowing specifically where each string is underneath the finger-tips.
This skill is critical for both finger to string accuracy and for the best possible sound when the guitar string is plucked. In this lesson, I’m going to help you get better at both of these skills with two exercises. The first study will train for a relaxed feel for string tracking. The second exercise will develop Finger-tip to guitar string plucking accuracy.
