V12 UPDATE INFORMATION Hey folks, we're still waiting for some modules to be updated for v12 before we can do an updated version of the guide. The modules that we're waiting on are going through extensive re-writes for v12 (not because v12 necessitates it, but because it's a really good time to do that kind of thing). IMPORTANT UPDATES ================== MODULES - Jack Kerouac's Animated Spell Effects: Cartoon is needed for some animations, you have to install this manually rather than through the module browser. See sheet for details - Item Macro is now listed as optional. Some folks have informed me that it's no longer need in the "Midi-verse," but it's still listed on official documentation (that is out of date). If you have missing automation without Item Macro, go ahead and enable it again. - DnDBeyond Importer is REQUIRED to get the "actor-wide" medkit from Chris's Premades SETTINGS - MIDI-QOL: make sure that the "Auto roll damage" settings in the GM/Player parts of workflow are set to anything but "never." This is covered if you use the "Full Automation" quick setting, but if you do not, make sure they aren't set to "never." - MIDI-QOL: Under the "Concentration" tab in workflow, set "Enable Midi-qol Concentration Automation" to ON. (This should be automatic with the full-auto quick settings, but verify) - DFREDS CONVENIENT EFFECTS: The "Modify Status Effects" setting can now be set to "Replace." OTHER NOTES - Gambit's Premades's Attack of Opportunity automation may cause issues if used with the DRAG RULER module. If you are experiencing issues, either disable the Attack of Opportunity automation in GPS, or disable the Drag Ruler module. UPDATING TO FOUNDRY V12? With Foundry's transition from v11 to v12, automation modules are still in flux, so many of these modules are still catching up or may even be replaced at some point. We'll be sure to publish a v12-friendly guide once we have a handle on it!

It depends on how far you've gone into v12, I suppose. And when you plan to play your games. If it were me, I would probably stay on v12 and forego all the automation until the modules caught up. We're talking, a month maybe, which is (depending on your frequency) not that many games to play before it comes back online.

Good video, thanks. I had a problem with dragging with the mouse after I replicated these settings with the automation of opportunity attack. It disappeared after I disabled the drag ruler module.

Same problem here, it seems drag ruler doesnt work well with the template from gambit's premade. Pretty sad since drag ruler is super useful

@@Zephyr-2011 Tested it yesterday, the problem only appears while in combat, since it's when the template is applied to the actors, if you manually delete the template dragruler works again but now the opportunity attack is not triggered. I believe Dragruler mistakes the actor ID for the template's, or the new entity(template+actor) has a new ID that it's not picked up by drag rule. I opened an issue in Drag Ruler github, but it seems to not be updated for almost a year, so I'm not keeping my hopes up.

@@iJoao-H Yeah, the templates are how the attack of opportunity automation works. If you toss the templates, you toss the AoO automation. Best to either disable Drag Ruler, or the AoO automation.

Great video, but Chris's Premade's isn't working here. It doesn't work with 5e 3.2 at the moment, which requires you to install various previous versions of dependent modules, which may break other dependencies, currently too much of a headache to get all the ingredients just right.

Can modules that are updated in v11 of Foundry, such as Chris's Premades, be used with the certainty that there will be no problems? Or do I have to follow all the versions that are in the spreadsheet? Gambit's Premades needs the Region Attacher addon and it's only available for v12

That's "Cleaner Title Bar," it's towards the bottom of the module list. You can also do the same thing with a setting in Ripper's Module Hub (was told that while editing this or it'd be in the video haha)

All this needs to be built into the 5e module. The PF2E system has all this stuff without even needing most of these modules, so there's no excuse for the 5e system to be so barebones out of the box.

I believe that (a lot) of this is coming. The big difference is that the PF2E system is an official port of the system, and the DnD5e system was unofficial until earlier this year. Now the 5e system devs feel like they can actually implement a lot more automation. Granted, we'll still need module developers to actually set up the automation for non-SRD stuff if we're using importers etc. and not paying for the books on our shelves again (thanks WotC lol)

"Module Management+" can export and import module settings via a downloadable (json iirc) artifact. Nothing in-system does this but I haven't found it too painful. As far as importing a list of modules, I'm not aware of how to do that but it's much simpler because you don't have to remember all the settings, just the names.

Updated the spreadsheet with a version column and a little header with Foundry and DnD5e version numbers. It's just the versions I tested on, so you might have some lee-way in one direction or the other, but I make no promises haha.

That's a "cursor highlighter" program that I have for making videos. It's honestly been so long that I can't find where I originally got it from, but there's a ton of options out there. (this is *not* a Foundry module. PnP - Pointer and Pings is probably what you'd be looking for in a module)

Walled Templates is not playing nice with Token Magic FX. If TMFX is on at all then the template highlight cannot or will not be able to be hidden for spells. :/

I'm not replicating this. When I cast the "web" spell, for instance, I see my template when I go to cast the spell, then there's just the graphic of webs without there being the actual template visible. To move or delete the template, I can see the template icon under my template tools, and the bounding box for the template appears when I hover over that icon or click-and-drag to move it. I would recommend double checking your settings. These are mine: TMFX - Enable Auto Template Effects: OFF - Default template grid on hover: OFF - Automatically hide template elements: ON WALLED TEMPLATES - Hide template border: OFF - Hide template Highlighting: OFF - Show on Token hover: OFF If you're still having issues with those settings, I'd suspect that there's some other setting that's messed up.

Whenever you use a spell or effect that has a measured template for targeting, you'll still see the template and what things are being targeted when you cast/use the ability (you can see this behavior when I demonstrate Tasha's Caustic Cauldron and Lightning Bolt). Once the template is placed and the spell/ability has "gone off", the template will be hidden if it is persistent (most of the truly persistent templates, like for the Web spell, have other visual effects for you to see where they are).

Well, don't update until July at the earliest. Things like Levels are going to break but should automatically migrate when everything is ready. Token Attacher will break but KayelGee is working on it. And we're working on migration tools for existing prefabs and such. MATT is also undergoing changes but monk is on top of it.

I followed your guide step by step. The only difference is that I do not use D&DB, but another module to import things, but I can use D&DBImporter to update those creatures afterwards. I have an issue, maybe you can understand how to solve it. I am DMing SKT, and I placed on the same scene two big tiles with two different versions of the same map (Players and DM). Then I used Multilevel (I know it is not updated anymore) token to duplicate the party token from the Player side, on teh DM side. I placed a wall to separate the two sections, and a sigle BIG light on the player side (so for the players the DM side is black because the Party token has no darkvision). My issue is that after I followed your guide, if I place any other token on that map, I am unable to move anything at all. I cannot even delete the toke I jus put a few second before (or to be more precise, if I delete it, I need to go to another map and back on this one to see the token actually cancelled). What could be the module that goes in congfict with Multilevel? I think the conlfict is between Multilevel and another module because the other maps are fine, and only this one makes use of Multilevel Tokens.

I haven't used Multilevel Tokens in well over a year, so I really couldn't tell you what's causing problems there. I would suggest using the "Find the Culprit" module then run it with MLT and it's requirements set as your controls. It could be the opportunity attacks from GPS since that basically attaches templates to the tokens? I'm not sure though.

Definitely could have clarified this a bit in the video, but to get the medkit on sheets, you'll need to have DDB Importer installed and active. You don't need to actually *do* anything with the DDB Importer, but installing it enables the button.

Yeah, I believe the Lightning Bolt is from JB2A. It might be Jack Kerouac's Animated Spell Effects: Cartoon, but I'm not positive (had both installed for this video). Both are listed on the module spreadsheet.

Thanks for the video! For some reason, Walled templates is too heavy for my computer, it makes everything bug. Is there any other way of taking out the opportunity attack templates? With Token FX I can make it show only when hovering, but I would like to also remove this feature

I've not personally had issues with Walled Templates, so there might be some other setting or conflicting module going on. That said, my system is pretty substantial, so maybe I'm just not noticing the hit. Unfortunately, without Walled Templates, then the TMFX settings are as good as it gets for hiding the template. Otherwise you'll have to do without.

Im new to foundry just bought it a week ago, and i had the FVTT 12 installed. Didnt even know it was a new version. Before i found your video (whicih i whish i did sooner) i took the monumental task of trying to automate everything on my own. After 4 or 5 merciless days im finaly 90% there. Just a couple thinds are a little wierd like active effects duration tracking and oportunity attacks. just simple stuff. everything else i managed to automate. But i want to go the full 100%. If i downgrade to VTT 11 do i loose all my progress? is it hard to do and o i loose al my scenes and actors data? or Dfreds modules and some other ones that seem pretty important are not downloable yet for this version. Do I wait or do i downgrade. To be honest i dont really mind either i just want to know whats better for me. Thanks in advance, your videos have been of great help to me.

Honestly, most of thrm are close to their v12 transition. Baileywiki will be officially supporting our content on v12 starting July 3rd, in fact. So you might just want to wait another week and not plan to downgrade.

My understanding is that PF2E handles a lot of this automation right out of the box (or with some settings changes). The main pieces that you'd want to add in are Automated Animations and PF2e Animations to get the visual flair added in.

Why mustn't Auto Roll Damage be set to Never? My players like to manually roll dice, so I want rolling to be manual while everything else is automated. Or am I confusing terms and definitions?

My understanding is that if auto-roll damage is set to "Never," then certain information isn't available for the rest of our automation modules to modify. So the solution is to select "Always" and then use the "Manual Rolling" settings in Chris's Premades. They kind of "pause" the workflow of attacks to let you manually put in roll totals, rather than actually automatically rolling them in the workflow. This lets you and your players get the best of both worlds with the automation and manual rolling. This can also be configured to ignore GM rolls (so that your rolls are still automatic), and only apply to certain players (if some of your players are good with auto dice, and some aren't, etc.). Disclaimer: I've not actually experimented with manual rolling very much, so there might be some additional tweaking that you need to do. I'd pop into the Chris's Premades discord if you have other questions and issues.

If you mean the blue dialog boxes, that's from Argon, but it only applies to certain dialog boxes. From what I can tell, it's if the dialog box is "downstream" from using something on the HUD, such as casting a spell that can be up-cast at higher levels. The rest of the dialog boxes are default or styled specifically by the module that they are a part of.

There are key-bindings in your "Configure Controls" settings, by default, alt is for advantage, and control is for disadvantage. That's on PC, I'm not sure on Mac, but you (and your players) can check in Configure Controls by searching "advantage" and the keybinds for both will show up for you. With the automation that we're running here, you and your players shouldn't need to be manually setting adv/disadv for combat often, but it'll of course still come up from time to time.

im a beginner , using this configuration. i just cant figure out how concentration works with this setup. my char uses hex which he should concentrate on (its switched on with midi qol) but it doesnt show anywhere that he is concentrating and on what. even if he gets hurt and should roll if he can keep concentrating it doesnt show

Can someone tell me how to automate the summons? My warlock has the "Find familiar" spell and when he casts the spell, it says there are no actors found in the familiar folder. Where exactly is that familiar folder? I searched for it everywhere edit: Ok, i got it to work using chat gpt, but now it says there is some error with warp gate "Duplication mutation name detected, "Pocket dimension". Stopping mutation" and it doesn't play any special effect upon summoning the token on the field. Its not a big deal, but it would be some great eye candy to have a summoning effect

If you go into your Dungeons & Dragons Fifth Edition settings, there's a "Theme" setting at the bottom. You can set it to automatic, which will copy your device's setting (ie: if you use the "Dark" theme on Windows, it'll apply dark in Foundry), and then there's light/dark. Right now this only affects the character sheet, but after Foundry v12 the setting will be in Core, and will affect all pop-ups, dialogs, windows, and sheets (more or less).

I've not experienced that myself. I would use the "Find the Culprit!" module and see if there's a conflict, or if one module in particular is causing a lot of performance issues.

@@roienna I was just having this issue. Currently use drag ruler to allow people to plan out their movements and being able to see how far they can move. But with walled template, dragging a token activates the opportunity attack template, which prevents drag movement. I like the automatic opportunity attack feature, but the drag movement is kinda ingrained in our combat workflow at this point.

I really wish that Foundry itself would figure out a way to add in all this automation into the actual product instead of relying on module creators. Some people cannot STAND DND5e....obviously, it'd be far too much work for the module creators to make it system agnostic.

I’m looking for a mod that would with most of these, that can hide the numbers on a 3D d20 and the bonuses to attack. Are there any recommendations for this? I want to roll with my players but would like to hide the numbers to keep them from meta gaming too much.

I believe either Dice so Nice or MidiQOL has the option you're looking for. My players can see any 3D dice I'm rolling, but the dice face is "?". I'm not so sure about the bonuses to attack, since I don't show my players any cards with rolls, I just do it in my end and tell them if they were hit and the damage

Jesus. Remember when playing D&D was just you and your friends, some paper, some dice, and a few books? With this list of modules you might as well just buy BG3 and play a video game.

True, but automation is great for making the GM life simple. I don’t miss the math and effect tracking at all.

Back in my day we didn't need calculators we used our hands and our feet! You don't need to count beyond that!

Would love to play pen and paper but some of my group are 1000s of miles away. Foundry does a good job of allowing us to still D&D with upgrades

So i am still on 3.0.4 5e. I haven't moved up to 3.1.X yet as i wasn't too sure if Midi, Chris, and Gambit were updated to work properly. Is that all ready for 3.1+?

or you simply play the better system in pf2e where half of that is integrated in the system
