The restoration of my jet boat is at another critical phase. Now that I have finished working on the custom gelcoat in the bilge, my next step in this build is to be the installation/setting of the pump intake. When setting the pump intake, the placement and location relative to the keel of the boat is critical. Our engine placement is 100% dependent on the correct positioning of the intake. To have the proper u-joint angles for a long healthy and vibration-free life, the placement of our engine and intake need to be very precise and complement each other.
Needless to say, I wanted to ensure I had my intake installed into the hull as accurately as possible. I will do my best to explain the steps and methods that I used to get the intake installed and epoxyed into position into the hull of my 1979 Centurion Jet Boat. While we are installing this intake housing, I will walk you through the method of finding its desired location, installation method, and most importantly desired angles that we want to set it to.
After spending months working on the custom application of gelcoat in my bilge, making what seemed to be very little progress, it does feel good getting this intake installed in short order. Fast visual progress, what a nice change of scenery! After a long winter, and with boating season fast approaching it finally feels like I am gaining some serious momentum. Once this pump intake is set into place, I can work towards installing the engine and mounting the new rail kit.
