The two stage trigger is setup because of the A10c recoil stabilisation. The pilot will arm the gun to pac mode . When u hold down stage 1 the aircraft triggers flaps and stabilises as u fire it will counter the recoil with the flaps . very cool to see it in the stick

Nice video. A couple of things worth a mention. First off, both throttle and stick use Hall-effect sensors (magnets), which means no moving parts, no wear and tear, and highly accurate and variable positioning. That said, I've worn out the stops on my throttle and my starboard engine now has the nasty habit of shutting down when I throttle back too far. That's a bit of a bugger when pulling out of a dive and throttling up for a rapid egress! The two position trigger, as already mentioned below in the comments, is designed to work in conjunction with the Precision Attitude Control (PAC) which keeps the A10C's gun on target despite recoil and the rotational torque of the gun itself. Lastly, though you touched on this briefly, the mapping of both throttle and stick are exactly as they would be in an actual A10C straight out of the box if you choose that setup, and why wouldn't you, if that's the plane you're flying. I use VR and have a setup that puts everything where it should be, so I reach forward to grab the stick that I can see and there it is, as expected. Having been so utterly spoilt, there can never be any going back. Have fun.

Great vid. Would really appreciate some assistance from the community - I have now bought two NEW Warthogs (Throttle and Stick) for Win 10 PCs. First machine, tried everything - no joy. Read through Thrustmasters instructions, tried everything, but it would only ever recognise the throttle (in both device manager, controllers as well as the TARGET software). I spent hours trying everything I could. Could not upgrade firmware to both devices, either. Thinking it was a faulty stick I emailed Thrustmaster - good luck, they advice 15 days for a reply (insane!). However, enthusiasm to play MS Flight Sim 2020 overcame me, and I sent the the first unit back to Amazon and purchased again, directly, from Thrustmaster (yes, I know!). Poor comms but very quick delivery. And it still does not work! Same issues - on my first attempt at installing, my PC recognises both Throttle and Stick. I then updated tyhe firmware for both devices, and installed software, and again, onyl the throttle was recognised. Uninstalled the drivers, restarted machine, tried the same thing over and over, and it only recognised the throttle. Any ideas? Much appreciated it. Surely I can't have had two new duff Warthogs?

Wow, that's really weird. As a PfCO holder and drone operator I follow your channel Matt but many years ago I worked as part of a Falcon 4 simulator development group and used to do a lot of work on the cockpit graphics as well as developing configuration files for Thrustmaster HOTAS systems. My old website is till running here www.falcon40.co.uk Sadly I sold my customised HOTAS Cougar system a few years ago, it was fitted with a force sensor just like the real F16 Joystick so that it sensed pressure rather than actually moving around. That one also had the realistic F16 throttle, although that too was modded to use hall sensors instead of pots on mine. Man I really regret selling that.... never sell stuff! I must not get back in to this!

@@MrMPW Don't tempt me! I was part of an online based squadron when I was in to it and they would do weekly missions with around 20 pilots taking part as well as lan meet ups all over Europe. It was pretty heavy stuff though the flight and weapons systems modelled in the F4 mods were so detailed that you literally had to do weeks of training and pass multiple instructor based test in order to maintain membership. It all got a bit too heavy going in the end but was a lot of fun.

If you would like to get away from the ball and socket check out the Virpil line up. They use a roller cam assembly instead of the ball and compression socket used on the Warthog. The roller/cam assembly offers the user the ability to customize the control resistance by using different cam profiles. They are another step up in price from the Warthog but the feel and long term reliability they offer is second to none.

Hey Dave! The Virpil gear does look awesome... Was tempted by their setup when I was looking to get started again but they never seemed to have stock of anything. Also, such a shame there’s so little opportunity to try these things before you commit to them too-don’t know how that could be solved but it’s all expensive gear and there’s nowhere I’ve found that you can go and try/compare the different options... Do you fly Virpil?

@@MrMPW I do use the Virpil Warbird base with a VFX stick. I had been wanting to update my system for quite sometime but I didn't go with the Warthog due to the long term issues with the ball and socket design. I share your (and everyone else's) frustration about Virpil's stocking issues and waited a long time for everything I wanted to be in stock at the same time. I finally gave up and just ordered the stick and base. Even though at the time I ordered the old CM throttle quadrant was also in stock, I elected to wait for the updated throttle quadrant. I received the joystick in December. My only regret is that waited so long to order it. In a word, it's amazing. The feel of the cam design while flying is the closest thing to real control resistance that I have ever felt at my desk. The movement is smooth, precise, and accurate. The stick is heavy enough to feel right in your hand but not so heavy that the weight causes unwanted inertia and lever issues if you go with an extension on your stick. The casting is heavy plastic and as you use it warms in your hand and is quite pleasant for long term use. I have a new CM2 throttle assembly on order. Granted, the cost of a Virpil cockpit approaches the cost of a cheap used car, but I am retired and I fly on line every day. It's cheaper than golf. The throttle shipped yesterday. I can't wait.

It isn't, it's a mid range HOTAS nowadays. Anything from the Big Three - VKB, Virpil and Winwing smashes it to pieces. However, depending on where you live - it might prove to be a compelling option. Stuff below the Warthog are Logitech clunkers for half it's price, and above you have stuff from aforementioned manufacturers for upwards of twice as much. You definitely get what you pay for, and Warthog is a very outdated design, mechanically - so if you're at all capable, considering punching up to Wingwing. Assuming you live in the EU with VAT and the yada yada, you can get the Orion 2 kit, for abt. 700 euro, and it's going to smoke the Warthog.

Yes, it is great kit. I’ve ordered the Warthog stick, throttles, rudder pedals and F/A 18 stick top - just waiting for the last item to arrive. My post lady had the same experience as you with the weight and had to ask me to lift the box with the rudder pedals in it out of the back of her van. Just a quick question about the DCS F/A 18 model. Is it normal to have the AOA indexer lights working with the gear up? I don’t think McDonnell Douglas did that. They certainly didn’t in the F-4.

Great stuff, I am just getting back into flight simming though considering waiting for MSF2020 before I buy a sim, which looks awesome ( I binned FS9 a while back thinking I would never come back haha. The honeycomb yolk and throttle quadrant are on my list. Currently just learning ATC on IVAO as I hope to fly on IVAO and Vatsim, which gives some good voice ATC at times. DCS? Maybe, I do fancy trying it, just means another controller but the WWII stuff looks awesome and would love to try it online too. Where do you fly online?

💪🏻 yeah, the new MSFS looks incredible... Can’t wait for that to drop officially! :) The Honeycomb yoke is incredible... Definitely worth the money, so looking forward to the throttles dropping when they’re released in a few months. To be honest-on X-Plane at the moment I just fly alone... Which is pretty sad! It’s the one thing which it’s missing for me; an in-built multiplayer module... Going to look at IVAO to see if it can bring that to the sim, but normally get my ‘fix’ for multiplayer in DCS! If you follow on Twitter or Facebook, I’ll drop the details on there when I sign up to IVAO and hopefully catch you online sometime! :)

@@MrMPW I don't currently follow on FB or Twitter but I will now ;) If you have never tried either then you will find IVAO a bit more easy going but Vatsim for the UK has more ATC online regularly. Getting your ATC rating is a bit harder on Vatsim at least to begin but well worth a look. ATC standards are fairly good whuilst pilot standards vary but they do like you to read up on proper procedures, not that I expect that will be a problem for yourself. Anyway if you need a hand getting setup give me a shout as it can be a bit daunting with the software and finding all the info etc. Catch you flying online hopefully.
