I hate that you nailed describing the sound of a Strat so precisely, and it has taken me years to find the right words to describe why I sold my US Standard Strat. 😂 Don't miss it though.

@@boringgearreviews I realize my 1980 CAR USA Strat with matching (too small) headstock is the new underdog. Nothing plastic about it, although it never beat my 1960 Jazzmaster. Which I had to sell, by the way 🙃

Shelby's customer service is unmatched! I had the best experience working with him on my squier jazzmaster upgrades. I got a mastery from him, his wiring kit, and the black bobbin pickups. Kindest guy, superb jazzmaster knowledge, and he was great at following up to make sure my product was functioning well for me. I can't recommend supporting his business enough cause he will ultimately support you haha. Love this review and your playing is great!

I own a Black Bobbin JM and couldn't be happier. They're incredible guitars on their own, but with Shelby's expert setup and his customer service makes them even better. Always hard to put into words what a guitar is like over the internet but f you've ever been lucky enough to play a truly great vintage guitar - one that sounds great, feels great, and plays great - you get the same "it" factor with these. It's a player's instrument. Not cheap but worth every penny.

Fantastic demo! I once had a JM, but traded it for for a 50’s style strat because it had some wiring issues years ago. I played the most shows with it so there’s some attachment but I’ve always felt it was kinda wimpy compared to a Tele which is now my go to. However I love that JM sound and think you’ve convinced me to try another one someday. Congrats on the rad guitar and experience!

SUBBED! (I wouldn't change anything about it however if you really are going to modify the rhythm circuit may I suggest changing the tone wheels to BASS and TREBLE? I have done this on two of mine One of them affects only the next pick up and on the other it's global but I've also replaced the tone knob, on that one, with a four-way selector to allow series of both pick ups as well as parallel and replaced the selector switch with the kill button I love these mods but as I say, I would leave yours well alone!

Do you find the 7.25” radius on this guitar comfortable?
@boringgearreviews
Жыл бұрын
It’s a very comfortable neck. I’m primarily a Les Paul style guitar player but this was no problem adjusting to. The slightly thinner frets were the only thing that took a minute to acclimate to but it’s no issue at all now. Can’t recommend them enough.

The wizardry that you speak of staying in tune with the trem is probably largely thanks to a properly cut nut. On all of your other guitars with tuning issues with some form of vibrato, I would bet it’s the nut being too tight on all of them.

Do happen to have a video going over your recording setup? I find when I start running a ton of gain, especially fuzz, in front of a plugin it’s so ugly sounding. Yours always sounds incredible so I’m curious about your signal flow.
@boringgearreviews
Жыл бұрын
Thanks so much! I don’t have a video on it but maybe I can put something together some point soon. My chain is Guitar > Pedalboard > UAD Apollo x6 > Softube JMP 2203 plugin. I run the amp plugin completely clean and make sure the signal isn’t clipping going in or coming out. I do a tiny bit of eq because of digital distortion and KZitem compression, cutting below 50hz and above 16k. Sometimes a small mid cut because of the telephone frequency that shows up on direct recording. That’s basically it. With amp plugins, they just need a cab sim. If it’s just a preamp, then it’ll sounds wonky.

As always nice video! I would like to know your thoughts about teles! I am considering buying one with pull-pull function. I wanted to buy a strat first but blown away by the tele sound. But maybe also a jazzmaster would be the right choice. I am very unsure at the moment.
@boringgearreviews
Жыл бұрын
Hmmm. Both awesome choices. It really comes down to trying a bunch and seeing which one you bond with. If you’re buying online, that’s of course trickier. Teles and Jazzmasters are both so awesome. I’d say start with what spoke to you and see what happens. If the tele blew you away, you honestly can’t go wrong there. It’s THE classic electric guitar for a reason. Teles and JMs definitely do their own things but they have similarities too. A tele with humbuckers and push/pull is 🤤🤤🤤🔥🔥🔥 Super solid and versatile. Just dive into the one that speaks to you and don’t second guess it or overthink it. Thanks for the support!
@bonjonbovi-

@@boringgearreviews Yes maybe I really shouldn't overthink it and listen to my feelings about it. The only thing I will miss is the tremolo on the tele, but then I also have an ibanez with a floyd, so it should be okay.
