A customer brought me his PRS S2 to do this mod. I followed the diagram exactly and assumed everything was perfect. He brought it back, stating that it was not exactly like a normal PRS 5 way. If bridge humbucker is position 1, then position 2 should be bridge humbucker and neck tapped. Position 4 should be both tapped. However, positions 2 and 4 were backwards from what they should be. I checked my wiring 3 or 4 times and everything was exactly like the diagram. It took a few minutes of major brain power, but I figured out how to swap what the 2 and 4 positions do on the super switch. That fixed it, and it was finally exactly like a PRS 5 way.

@KNGuitarWorkshop I reversed the wiring for the 2nd and 4th positions on the bottom left set of lugs. Sorry, I should have taken pictures of what I did. It was fairly simple though.

Brilliant! One thing people don't think about or mention is this works best on 24 fret guitars where the pickups are closer together - this gets you closer to Strat-land in those combined settings.

This is great but there’s a much simpler and more intuitive way to get the same 8 sounds. Basically you want the 5 way to control the splits for one of the pickups and the push pull to do the other. Eg 1 Bridge hum 2 Bridge split 3 Both hum 4 bridge split, neck hum 5 neck hum With a push pull to split the neck. Or if you prefer you can do the exact opposite so the switch splits the neck and the pot splits the bridge

Many thanks for this - been looking for a clear & easy to read schematic for my favourite PRS pup selector method… my only suggestion would be to wire the tone pot to the volume pot output rather than the input… loads the tone cap less when you reduce volume… bit like 50’s wiring? My Custom 22 now awaits my soldering iron!

Great mod to do! Just make sure you get rid of the cap on the volume pot if you go in that direction

The mod will work with the 85-15s as well. I just used the 58-15LT to give me some crazy S2/Custom 24-08/McCarty hybrid sound. Worked out great thoo :)

This is awesome, thanks man. QQ, do the pickups need to be in NS NS/SN SN polarity for this schematic to work properly? For example, lets say I have a fresh set of BKPs to drop in a CU24, am I going to have to flip that neck magnet?

Super cool idea!! Have you thought to put a push pull on the volume pot to split the capacitor to on/off treble bleed?? Would be the definitive addon. Thanks for sharing This awesome wiring!!

I put in 57/08’s and a Mannmade bridge in my Semi-hollow S2 last year and now want to try the 58/15 lts and this mod! Damn you Jay!😂😊 I think we can all agree the constant desire to mod one’s guitar is either a disease or some kind of therapy.

Hi Jay, this is brilliant, thank you so much. I have the core custom 24 piezo , it come with 5 way switch already so I only need the push pull switch. My only worry is the piezo wiring (if any) and its blending with the new pickup configuration. Do you think it will work or is it not recommended for a piezo guitar?
@JayLeonardJ
Жыл бұрын
Definitely Doable, must will need a few little tweaks. Send my diagram and the stock piezo diagram to your local tech to get it all sorted. It is a relatively simple change :)

Man, you're really selling me on this guitar, i have a similar thing about prs: guitars are great, but i was never a fan of their fancy pants, glossy paint jobs. Out of curiosity, is it sponsored or just observations?

Great question: these mods are the result of my own personal curiosity of making my S2 the best it can be. That being said, PRS did send me the 58/15 LT pickups I use in my guitar.

Nice! But i think it's not a Coil Tap, it's a Coil Split. You say split wich is correct and you wrote coil tap wich ain't correct. Coil Tap means you have different outs from 1 single coil!
