Hi Alex, just discovered your vids. I'm enjoying your content. I totally think it's a system that can stunt development as a guitarist. The best thing I ever did was learn the guitar fretboard properly... however it took me learning jazz improv on a single voice instrument (trumpet) to realise why it would be so much more helpful to properly ingrain that knowledge. Now I know that stuff I feel like I could pick up most instruments without a jot of technique and get something musical out of it. Rather than just shapes on the guitar... I understand music more as a language. You say it yourself in this vid, as you play a chord you're aware of every note in that chord. There are many guitarists I know that don't realise that when they (for example) play a full open G that they're basically playing a triad with 3 octaves of the note G in it and two of D... it's just a shape to them. Fine up to a point and sure you can write songs that way (I sure did years ago) but frustrating when you want to move beyond that place. I was actually getting paranoid that I don't really utilise it specifically as a method with which to teach. You have actually helped me feel a bit less concerned about that. Best to you.

You said it, music as a language. I think too many guitarists fall into a trap of thinking the guitar is at all unique when it's just another musical instrument. The terms and ideas apply to everything, even if we have to sort through our own ways of thinking how to navigate the instrument. The guitar is not very intuitive in the way it's laid out, which I think perpetuates the problem. It takes a lot of mindful work to overcome it.

This book will be perfect for me as I recover from a broken right hand. There's not much I can do with the guitar, so learning theory seems appropriate. Thanks!

What kind of tempo do you recommend playing these exercises? I just got this book today and the 1st left hand gauntlet. I bought your 120 arpeggios book and it is helping me tremendously. Playing those exercises to a metronome is addicting

As slow as you have to in order to play them perfectly every time. They're not really speed exercises though. They're meant to teach you to map harmonies all over the place. So something moderate is fine.

@Alex Rockwell thanks so much. I have ordered 5 of your books now. Waiting on 4 physical copies but learning from the pdfs in the meantime. Haven't felt so motivated to practice in years so I really appreciate you sharing your knowledge!
