One of the reasons why Embiid is bad is that the referees give him free throws for any contact. Any contact with Embiid is a foul like he's a ballerina on a basketball court. Embiid is a playoff choker, there is a big difference between reg season and playoffs. Embiid cried his way to getting his MVP award (even though Jokić is CLEARLY a much better player, especially in the playoffs) and it seems that was his main focus. But putting up big numbers during reg season when you have ton of irelevant games where intensity is not that high and playing in playoffs where you have 7 straight games against the same team that designed their defense specifically to stop you is a massive difference. And thats where good or decent players are separated from truly great players. And Embiid is obviously not that great and certainly not worthy of being in the discussion as one of the best players in the league since this is not the first time this happened and his playoff chokes have become something you can regularly count on,g7 was just another day in the office for him. If you look at Jokić on the other hand and the way he performed so far, it is completely opposite of Embiid. He raised his game even higher and managed to put up ridiculous numbers to keep his team in a series where they faced team with 2 great allstar players that both played incredible (Booker literally could not miss a shot for a few games in a row). The moment KD and Booker had a little slip up and did not perform amazing in game 6, Joker and DEN capitalized and are now in CF. Now thats the mark of a truly great player worthy of an MVP award, not somebody who stinks it up every single year and then blames everybody else

If anyone who has watched basketball in Shaq and Yao’s era, he would know how bad Joel is. Real centres in that era aims to score using body strength, shooting skills and low post skills. Not like Embiid tried to bully his way in, then guess what, try to draw a foul. He will struggle badly when those calls are not called in the playoffs. For those who claim Joel has mid range, I recommend watching Yao’s clips. For those who claim Joel has low post and has strength, I recommend watching Hakeem and Shaq’s videos.

Finally people are starting to take off the rose tinted glasses with Embiid. Let's be real here: the only reason Jokic isn't a 3 time MVP is because Kendrick Perkins went in national TV and played the race card. He put his thumb in the scale and there is nothing that anyone could tell me that would convince me that every single voter wasn't thinking about that when casting their vote.

If they gave Giannis the MVP after leading his team to the 1st seed in the East putting up better numbers I could understand... but Embiid I just can't, he's not a top 3 player in that league never mind the MVP, Giannis and Jokic are clearly the 2 best players in that league and when they are injured their teams suck, whereas Philly actually play better without Embiid as he just wants to put up inefficient shots to get his numbers

Though this as well. He's just too big to play on the outside when shit gets real. Man's wasting his size and strength. He keeps playing like a freaking point guard but that stops working in the playoffs once smaller dudes are continuously hounding him. He's a regular season player. Plenty of those in the league he's far from the only one. I think his struggles with injuries and conditioning have always hurt his potential and his bad habit of flopping (which gets rewarded in the regular season but then not so much in the post season) mean he is ill prepared for what the post season brings. He also sadly has never had a coach that held him accountable the way he clearly needs to be. If I were Philly I'd be blowing it up and building around Maxey. Even if his value has dropped Embid would still get a massive haul in a trade.

Joel’s game doesn’t translate well in the playoffs. He’s trying to foulbait so much in the playoffs when refs usually let the game go for silly floppers. He’s also not trying to get the offensive rebounds and doesn’t sprint up the floor when he or his teammates miss shots. He’s usually the last guy up the floor. I wanted the 76ers to win against Boston so bad but Embiid wasn’t hungry for that title. It felt like he just wanted to get the MVP and not the ring. A lot of big men who has won the championship won it with rebounds and trying to get the ball in the basket, not by free throws. Joel just isn’t cut for it. It’s a shame because I really wanted a 7 game series between him and Joker. I doubt that will ever happen when he’s trying to get an extra 12-15 points from the free throw line every game instead of dunking that ball.

That’s why winning the MVP this year was just like winning the championship, Because he knew that it would be his highest accolades he could achieve. Embiid isn't the same tier of player as the top guys. He just dosen't have the mentality for it. People can get mad if they want, but Embiid is not a Top 5 player. The most unguardable players in the NBA are probably Luka, KD, Jokic & Curry. Those guys are unstoppable because they have so much in their bags. Embiid isn't anywhere near those guys. Free Throw merchant that struggles when he can't easily backdown his defender.

Put Giannis up there as well. His bag isn't as big as the others you mentioned but unlike Embiid he isn't ever scared to keep attacking, and rather than try to foul bait like Embiid, Giannis will always push through to score a bucket. Big mentality difference which has lead to different results for both of them even though they are both technically super athletic bigs with limited bags. When the other team forms a wall to gameplan against Giannis he will still find a way to put up an efficient 30+ whereas Joel crumbles any time he's doubled.

I normally agree with the can't win by yourself argument because it's a team sport but Joel doesn't deserve that excuse. You can't win by yourself but you can at least play up your own standards you set in the regular season or even play better. If it was a small sample size of Joel playing worse in the playoffs i could see the circumstances like not enough help or a bad matchup excuse but this the 6th time. It's painfully obvious now that particular circumstances or matchups don't slow Embiid down , just playing any good playoff level team in a 7 game series slows him down.

You can sum it up by just looking at Embiid's one-dimensional shot chart. Players who are only good from two spots on the floor are going to struggle come playoff time, when they're matching up against teams and coaches who have enough time and repetition of games to strategize how to keep them out of those spots. But during the regular season, specializing on picking just 2 spots on the floor can be a great way to rack up the stats. Harden, Booker, Westbrook, etc. all have similar issue. And even Durant and Doncic too some extent.

@@sb17146 I mean his style of play has limitations. ISO ball and midrange can help you score in tough matchups but can’t help you win games. As good as KD and Booker who’re both shooting 50+% in isolation can’t beat the Nuggets team who can generate much more efficient shots. Not to mention Embiid is not as good as them and have major flaws in his reads and handles. Honestly his focus on developing his perimeter skills in recent years makes sense cuz it utilizes his biggest strengths but he should really learn some low post skills with his size.
