When Survivor became a runaway hit, every major network tried to create their own reality game show franchise. The perpetually fledgling UPN Network was no exception, when in August of 2001 they debuted their crack at the genre with Manhunt. Starring a then unknown John Cena, Manhunt featured contestants on an island being hunted down with paintball guns all in a quest to earn 250,000. But what the show became most known for wasn’t what happened on the show, it’s what happened after. This is a story of lawsuits, FCC Complaints, and a scandal regarding just how real reality television was.
