Eliud kipchoge's life story and achievements .
Todays is a story of a legend, a winner, a star and a master, a man of record Eliud Kipchoge also known as: the philosopher: born on November the 5th 1984 in the rift of Kapsisiywa, 30 Kilometers south west of Eldoret, kenya. Essentially, it is a location 1.975 kilometres or 6480 feet above sea level, which will be very important in the course of his life as you will see. Janet Rotich, the maiden behind this legend, worked as a kindergarten teacher he would come to his calling in the most natural way possible, running to and from school up to distances of over 2 miles., he still didn’t know that this would become part of his life, and this is where Patrick Kipsang, the former student to Janet Rotich, Kipchoge’s mother would come into play. At the age of 16 years old, Kipchoge got inspired by the neighbour, who by then had four major medals , 3 of them being silver from 3000 metres steeplechase competitions won in 1991, 1992, 1993 and a gold medal he won at the all-africa games held in Kenya back in 1987. 2 years later after their meeting, Kipchoge took part in the 2003 world championship, 5000 metres run where he plucked his first win and gold medal at major event, followed by morrocan Hicham El Guerrouj and Kenenisa Bekele from Ethiopia closing the top three. Eliud would come into it again the next year at the Athens 2004 Olympic games in Greece, but this time, Moroccan Hicham El Guerrouj beat him at the race for gold, followed by Ethiopian kenessia Bekele, Eliud Kipchoge taking the bronze medal at position 3, 23 minutes late than his previous run in 2003. He would venture I to major ground again in 2007 at the world championship where he would take second position and the silver medal, with Bernard Lagat, a Kenyan, taking gold for the United States of America, and Ugandan moses ndiema kipsiro coming at the third position and securing the bronze medal. Unshaken, Kipchoge went in again the next year in Beijing where he took second position and secured the silver medal behind Ethiopian Kenesia Bekele who took the gold and Edwin Cheruiyot taking the bronze for kenya. A winner is created from failures and lessons and kipchogee case wasn’t any special as was in 2012 where he couldn’t qualify for the London Olympics due to underperformance after finishing at the seventh position and left for Thomas Pkemei to take the bronze medal for Kenya, but tis was the beginning of a new era in his life after starting to venture and focus in marathon and as a man known for endurance, he joined the 2013 Hamburg marathon where he took the first place hitting a time of 2 hours, 5 minutes and 30 seconds, followed by Ethiopian Getachew Limenih 2 minutes later, and Kenyan Kimaiyo Lawrence coming in 3 minutes afterwards to close the top 3 positions. Still in the same year, he ran his first berlin marathon and the second-ever where he came up at the second position in 2 hours 4 minutes and 5 seconds, a minute earlier than the previous major marathon at hamburg behind Kenyan Wilson kipsang, who set the new record then at 2 hours 3 minutes and 23 seconds and closing the top three another Kenyan Geoffrey kamworor. After this, Eliud Kipchoge consecutively won a stream of marathons in 2014 Chicago, 2015 London and berlin, 2017 berlin,2018 and 2019 london and lastly 2018 in berlin where he set a new world record at 2 hours 1 min and 39 seconds in the year 2018 specifically. His winning streak would come to be broken after 6 years in the London marathon 2020 after coming in position eight due to what he said was an ear problem leaving the lead for Ethiopian shura kitata, Kenyan Vincent kipchumba as position two and Ethiopian sisay lemma for the position three. Later in 2021, he reclaimed his throne and proved himself once again at the Tokyo Olympics by taking the gold medal and extended it to 2022 at the berlin marathon. Eliud Kipchoge became more popular after bringing forward his interest to be the first to finish a marathon in under two hours in which he failed his first trial in milan 2017 at 2 hours 25 seconds, which would later lead to him giving it another shot later in 2019 in Vienna and hit an unofficial 1 hour 59 minutes and 40 seconds which was unfortunately not considered as it didn’t follow on to all the required rules. Remember the altitude we mentioned earlier, it is considered one of the attributes to kipchoge’s outstanding performance as he got used to training in such areas. Fast forward, the philosopher had his latest marathon in boston in April 2023 where he came at 6 the sixth position due to an upper leg complication leaving the win to Kenyan evans chebet, Tanzanian Gabriel geay at 2nd and Kenyan benson kipruto taking the third position.
