David Ruffin put so much heart and raw passion in his music. I don't hear his music, I feel it. I'm moved and captivated by his sultry baritone, his sweet falsetto and his piercing screams. There are baritones that compare to his but not one has his versatility. I'm well aware he was a character and had his flaws and some will never forget or forgive that but you can't deny he was one of the best that ever graced the stage....

Our only hopes is that Martha, Mickey Stevenson, HDH members and a few other write a tell all. As Gordy is one of the most powerful men on the planet and he's not telling on his self.Mary Wells was the biggest female.artist out during the My Guy period and got blackballed when she left the big M. Couldnt get her records played after she left. The under promotion of David Ruffin after he questioned Motown's book keeping.tactics and him for.ever.being in the dog house is another example.Stevie and Marvin wrote their material.and were not affected as much. But if you were an artist that depended on your material being.written. U had.a hard time after leaving Motown. Gladys, The Four Tops, And the.Isleys were the exception to the rule of course they got even bigger. While mainstays such as Martha and The Vamdellas, Marvelettes, Brenda Holloway had issues.The. tell all after.the demise of Gordy will be interesting reading. I purposely omitted Miss Motown , we all know who that is.As a book coming from her would be one big ass lie.

As a Black man living during the 1960's, this is personal to me. David was a great lead singer for our culture's top group - The Temptations. Motown put together a team of songwriters just for them (Dozier, Holland, Dozier) Every song released was great, topping the R&B chart constantly year after year, after year. They were a huge part of Black culture. Then David's abuse of one of Motown's iconic stars (Tammi Terrell) shook-up Motown (he beat her more than the one incident here). Then David's ego and cocaine habit caused him to get kicked out of the group. Which shook-up the whole Black community nationwide. For those reasons, he lost support from the black community (socially, and professionally). He never had another hit record after his one and only solo album with Motown. We are greatly appreciative for the joy he gave us, but saddened by how it ended. He was only 50 when he died. To the producers of this piece: Don't present our stories so cheaply. Hire a professional narrator and editor

Hey young brother, I think you are doing a wonderful job. You don’t need to hire anybody, save yourself some money. Everybody has to start somewhere, as time goes on, you will get better, with time!

For what are you sime type maschocist and love to see pain or something? That type of behavior serves no purpose. Someone who would like to see this is sad.

I personally understand both sides. In ‘66 when Ruffin demanded to change the group name to his it didn’t sit well with Otis and this just wasn’t any ordinary group there was just no 1 lead singer. But in Ruffin case I see why he thought that way I mean cmon they didn’t make it until David got in the group and every time he sung lead in the group it was a hit.

He basically carried the tempts but it wasn’t just him contributing.

Boil Motown down to its core essence. One singer will be there.
