I gotta admit 7 of 9 is probably my favourite. Her and Tuvok. My reason for choosing 7 of 9 is the development her character goes through during the show. She starts out as monotonic robot and ends up as a monotonic robot, with feelings, friendships and her own opinion. As for Tuvok, I don't know why, he's such a comedic character in many shows. Its so damn subtle but its definately there.

The doctor...be it comedy relief or a show with a serious theme (ie Latent Image S5E11), Voyager's EMH always entertained with his sometimes childlike curiosity. Kevin Arnold's coach 😉 (Robert Picardo), masterfully plays the role so well!

@Poklando Although this is likely due the the fact there were far more episodes of Next Generation than there was of the original series, Picard actually violated the Prime Directive alot more than Kirk. I agree the Prime Directive was not well thought out. A planet that hasn't achieved warp drive yet is facing an extinction level event, rab some popcorn, sit back, and enjoy the show, because that's all the Prime Directive will allow. Plus, i can't imagine the Vulcans seeing allowing an entire planetary civilization to go extinct just because they hadn't discovered warp drive yet as being very logical. I also never understood the Vulcan correlation between logic, and not being able to lie. Star Trek 4 is a great example of when lying would, in fact, be the logical thing to do. Spock knows they have traveled to the pas, so the public can't be allowed to discover who they are. Kirk give Spock the cover stoty that he attended Berkley, yet when asked about it, blatantly denies it. He also discusses sensative information (humpback whales are extinct, that he can communicate with the whales, etc) in front of Gillian. These would have been times that lying would have been seen as the logical action

@Poklando The prime directive truly DOES suck! Maybe not to the point of interfering in & trying to CHANGE another planet's culture, (unless it's really brutal or something, when it doesn't really need to be) but HELP if a disaster could wipe them out, and if it can't be done on the quiet, front up and EXPLAIN who what and why as simply as possible to the inhabitants of the more primitive world!

@@RemyJackson Here is an example that comes to mind. In the Episode Pen Pals, Picard says we can't help this planet because it could 'change the balance of power' in the region. But- when? 500 years from now? 1000? Once they discover Warp, they aren't going to enter the galaxy-stage and have any chance of over coming the Klingons, Cardassians, or Romulans. Isn't the unique culture worth saving? I say this in contrast to arguing we should give replicators to the Kazon Nistrom, who are demonstratably unkind. But it's not that we need to /not interfere/ it's more like, don't give assholes high powered weapons. (sorry, not assholes. they have a legit trauma history. Also, other topic: are the Kazon supposed to be allegory for Black people? We learn that 'they've been freed from bondage for //30// years, shouldn't they just be over it already?' 1965 Civil Rights Act -> 1995. If this is the case, it is the absolutely worst handling of an already bad situation, which is racism in US. I feel like the Federation could be more up-to-date on Trauma Informed Care and if Janeway was the negotiator we all think she is, she would have found a way to create a ceasefire and helped them find peace.) P.S. i can't go to sleep without voy on, so take me 25-years-later considerations as only food for thought, and conversation postulations, not my hard-fast opinions on anything.

Sevens' addition to the crew really helped Voyager mature as a show. Not because of her looks (though I'm sure it improved the ratings), but because she introduced much needed character development. Also, every good Trek needs a character of an "outsider", with a unique perspective on humanity. TOS had Spock, TNG had Data, DS9 had Odo. For Voyager that outsider was Seven of Nine. Tuvok and the Doctor also, to a certain degree, but mainly her.

Janeway and especially B’Elanna Torres had a huge influence on me and my sister. She’s now a medical doctor and I became an architect - and I’m certain seeing woman in leadership roles that were traditionally seen as ‘masculine’ helped us think beyond the perceived status quo. I grew up in Russia and the idea of woman in science and engineering was in some way championed during the Soviet era. First woman in space and so on. But the identity of woman was radically altered after the Union collapsed and more conservative ideas about the role of woman flourished with the ascent of orthodoxy. From about mid 90s onwards the media often pumped out hyper sexualised images of woman as dizzy bimbos reliant on masculine men for simple tasks. As a young girl, when I told our local priest that I wanted to be an Cosmonaut he looked at me and said ‘if woman go to space then who well tend to the men on the earth’??? ... thankfully I ignored this advice because I had role models like Janeway and Torres which made me believe I could pursue science. That was the whole point of humanities future in the show. We have evolved beyond prejudice based on gender, race & sexual preference etc. That's why the characters are often shocked when they encountered it in other races. I believe that Gene Roddenberry came up with the Prime Directive in the 60s at a time when there was heightened awareness of what a catastrophe it was for native Americans when Europeans made contact. Europeans took their land, converted them to Christianity, exposed them to novel diseases that decimated them, herded them into designated territories like Oklahoma. The purpose of the Prime Directive is to prevent us from doing that again. The Trek universe explores the costs and trade offs of the policy pretty thoroughly throughout all the franchises. It's fascinating that it remains controversial precisely because it entails costs and unintended consequences despite being well intended and, I believe, broadly beneficial to the galaxy.

Except It doesn't work. For example, current issues and help to so-called 3rd world countries and immigration are actively blocking any transformation there, money, and help being seized and used to foul advantage and at the same time the most capable people are running off to highly developed countries. If you think of it, if it was allowed, very soon this so-called "help" would end to create a godlike status of the helpers and a private army. Exactly what was made in Africa during colonial era and is happening now redone by China. On the big stage, billions upon billions of galaxies with billions of years on them will clearly create a simple picture - those efforts are meaningless, small, not making any change. Whatever you do, enormous amount of species are gonna be extinct. So the question is when the civilization is doomed to its end? Who makes the call when to intervene? Honestly all those "stellar catastrophic events" are just not real. And on the other hand, do you want to save civilization which created some bioweapons that wiped them out? Are they Civilised? What they will do next? The directive is complex and well thought. And the main thought behind it is - you don't have the superiority in moral or intellectual, or the right to decide other fate. it's a testimony of freedom, liberty, responsibility.

The Voyager episode "Friendship One" does a good job of showing what can happen without the Prime Directive. The United Earth Space Probe Agency freely gave out advanced technology, and as a result, an alien race who lacked the experience in dealing with it was almost destroyed by anti-matter power. The Prime Directive does suck at times. I would def be one of the people who want to help everyone, but the different series show the dangers of interference. I think also in the real world, we see the damage in certain places were colonial powers arrived, and then left, and a power vacuum gave rise to dictators and massacres. I also think part of the issue with the Prime Directive is the transitory nature of star ships. A starship arrives, gives an alien race access to phasers, anti-matter power, and other technology and then leaves. As we saw, they could easily kill themselves, or it could send the country into war. Imagine on Earth, if aliens arrived tomorrow and gave a random country access to shield generators, antimatter weapons, and antimatter power. It would change the balance of power on Earth. It might be different if the ship stayed for a few months and trained people, and ensured everyone had access to the technology, but that would be a huge tie-up of resources.

I don't think it was an "untold truth" as it is a compilation of quotes and information that was out there, but nice job with the research in putting it together. I watched the series after it had aired so without a doubt the attraction to it was the inclusion of the Borg and Jeri Ryan as Seven of Nine. Looking at it now, I can't believe she actually wore that costume as her regular outfit. The impression I got was that including the Borg and Ryan probably helped save the show, at a minimum extended the series length. Can't imagine anyone else as the Captain other than Kate Mulgrew. It is kind of disappointing that it wasn't all "peace and love" amongst the actors, but sometimes the BTS stuff is just as interesting as the story itself. There is a fantastic collection: "Star Trek Fan Collective: Borg", and all of the included Voyager episodes are definitely amongst some of Star Trek's best all-time shows.

Exactly! I never thought that either. But, then again, I grew up in the era of actors being professional. When I first watched "Whatever Happened to Baby Jane", in 1975 , I was 13. I had absolutely no clue how much both of those actors hated each other. My Dad would often tell me how there were rumors of how they did shit to each other. Which I found amazing at that time. When I went back and watched it, I'm not sure, but I feel I caught very slight microaggressions here and there. Or maybe I was looking for them. I still think that it's impossible to ever be sure, because the story line made so much sense. Seven often had to play devil's advocate to Janeway's sense of pride. I still couldn't tell, because their non-verbals fit completely into the story line!

I just finished watching the entire series over again and I think Robert Beltran was right. The cast always did a great job, especially Robert Picardo as the Doctor, but you can see the inconsistencies and repetitiveness when you binge watch the whole thing years later. Voyager basically became Star Trek: 7 of 9 after she joined the show, and that's not a knock on Jeri Ryan who I think did a great job, but the constant 7 of 9 and Borg storylines took away from other development on the show. 9 out of 10 times Voyager was in a fight nothing worked when it needed to. Shields were always conveniently down, phaser and photon torpedos constantly didn't work in a fight. Need to go to warp? Yeah that's down too. Need to use the transporter on the fly? Cant get a signal or some alien race is blocking Voyager's ability to stop them from using it. The Borg was basically the boogeyman of Star Trek. They were a fantastic villain in TNG, but some of that was due to all the things we didn't know about them and how lethal the Borg were. In Voyager they became just another bad guy that Voyager for the most part easily overcame, which is more amusing because Voyager often got their asses kicked by everything else in the Delta Quadrant. Species 8472 was a scary sequel to the Borg when they could wipe out the Borg without even trying, but instead of pushing that theme they humanized them, took the mystery away, and then they were never heard from again. And finally, as others have said before me, they really shit all over Harry Kim. He rarely had episodes that focused on him and for some reason was written as a joke in some ways who was never promoted for no good reason. Tom Paris could get a field commission after being in prison, have that rank taken away, then given back again, but they cant do anything for Harry? Im complaining a lot, but I still enjoyed the show. I just see a different perspective all these years later watching the whole thing over again. There were some fantastic writers on Voyager, but sometimes its like they had no idea what the hell they were doing and would just default back to the same basic themes and repetitive stuff over and over again which is a feeling I never really had watching the other Star Trek shows.

They explore in the seventh season episode "Nightingale" why Kim was not promoted. He is in charge of a shuttle, witnesses a battle Starfleet had no involvement in, and knowingly chooses to break the prime directive. He is then duped by the aliens to helping them transport weapon technology while also doing a poor job of commanding their ship. He is totally incompetent in a command capacity. The biggest problem with this episode (which happened repeatedly in the seventh season), is that there was no punishment for his breaking the rules.

To be fair though, on your point about the Borg; where else could Voyager go with the Borg after they were whipped into submission with Picard snapping the Queen's spine, Arnold style minus the one-liner on First Contact? A lot of people like to blame Voyager for the downfall of the Borg, but the Borg had already been demystified and diminished as a threat on the big screen by the TNG crew.

Some random thoughts: 1) If you can find it, check out Robert Picardo in the extremely hilarious movie Get Crazy. He plays a deranged fire inspector. 2) Voyager was the only Trek show where the crew made it back to Earth. 3) There was a two episode arc where some aliens capture Voyager and force the crew into holo deck simulations. Jeri Ryan singing, nazis fighting klingons, this arc had it all. 4) The chemistry between Ryan and Picardo was so great that those two actors basically hijacked the show. My interest in the show went from once in a while to every week once Ryan came on board. She is a great actress with depth. She took the show to a whole new level.

I think Beltran and Mulgrew have some good points. Ryan is great and she does not need this suit to show her talent. This kind of physical presentation can be seen as a back step. It is definetely a visual contrast to Janeway‘s uniform. Wearing a uniform underlines equality of all star fleet members, so Seven literally gets the role of an „eye catcher“ and that is sad. Star Trek is not meant to need that. Seven, the Borg and the Doctor have a lot of story potential, but the others have too: Chakotay for example is a character, who fits perfectly into the old Roddenberrian style: he adds a human culture to the bridge that has not been presented yet. In TOS there are Americans, Russians, a Scot, Black Americans, Japanese People, Vulcans, TNG has the European Captain, and the Klingon, and then Voyager adds a Native American, which is great. But then he does nothing but standing in the background saying „aye Captain“. I can understand that Beltran felt not challenged at all. The problem of Voyager is that they had a lot of potential (maybe even more than the other series), but they wanted to open up to mainstream audience: Somerhing that TNG never did.

VOY is my favourite Trek, It was the First Star Trek I watched and after watching the rest of the ST series I kept coming back. The Doctor, Janeway and Seven were awesome characters. I don’t know how much she was prepared for that interview, but she doesn’t seem like just an actor who isn’t bothered about the material outside of learning the lines. She seems to know more than she would need to, especially with Voyager having like 2 episodes with Ferengi, and Janeway only being with one once. Shame the host guy didn’t know much. I don’t blame Beltran for speaking out. The guy got virtually nothing to do for most of the show. I hear he dared Brannon Braga to write a love story between Chakotay and Seven and well... that came out of nowhere in the last episode. As do I. Been a big fan of the shows since TNG of the 80s, but the concept of the Prime Directive is generally rather offensive. Here we have these massive starships, which are hundreds of years more advanced than [insert primitive society], capable of preventing numerous natural disasters, aid people who are suffering a potentially catastrophic illness etc. But they often choose NOT TO. And why? Because they can help, they decide they shouldn't help, and often't DON'T help. Not a huge fan of the JJ Abrams films, but one thing they did do rather well, was showcase the exact opposite. An alien species facing potential extinction at the hands of a volcano eruption. Kirk and crew have the technology to stop the volcano, and they do. Unfortunately, they are accidentally revealed to the alien species, who begin to "worship" the advanced starship. Now, not saying that Kirk's method in dealing with the situation was right (could've been done, and without being noticed). But the idea to actively CHOOSE not to help someone, when you are able to smacks of arrogance and selfishness. Two things which go contrary to the assumed "utopian" society of the 23rd/24th centuries.

oh no the content creator speaks in his own video...... i recommend you just look up the infos and interviews yourself instead of watching some elses content and complaining about them talking to much....
