For the backdrop. You could make a few fabric back drops (or get shower curtains), like forest painted, green screen, black, white. Then attach all of them to the rail like curtains and be able to slide them across for easy changing in and out for quick pictures. Rather then having to sling something up every time you wanna take a picture.

I love the barn! So jealous! So...idea time. Maybe turn the upstairs into your sewing area, since when you are seeing you are mostly sitting at the machine or Floor-Trolling, and don't need a lot of ceiling height. That way you can leave a project sitting out if it is a long-term thing like the Leia costume. I know what a pain it is to clear a seeing project because you need to use the workspace, all while knowing you will have to get it out again in 2 days. Keeps the ground floor clear for other at projects and filming. Also keeps fabrics on upper floor, away from paint and foam etc. that can get messy on ground floor. My 2 cents. Great job! Yes, you spent some money, but you won't have to touch that barn again in your lifetime, if done right, so divide that amount by decades of use, and it becomes cheaper than the studio space you were going to rent....and tax deductible as a business expense. Way to go.

“Inside a barn is a whole universe, with its own time zone and climate and ecosystem, a shadowy world of swirling dust illuminated in tiger stripes by light shining through the cracks between the boards. Generations of pocketknives lay lost in the layers of detritus on the floor.” ― Carolyn Jourdan, Heart in the Right Place

What if you put in a mini-fridge and had a small seating area in there somewhere? A cozy chair, a little table, a decorative lamp, some plants... Get a drink from the fridge upstairs, bring it down, sit in the Designated Cozy Chatty Area to film an Ask Me Anything or one of the chatty vids. Edit to say I've hosted a few panels at Cons. If you don't want to talk, that's the one for you. I mean, you can be on a panel without talking but, like, why are you there? Hosting is mostly about prompting other people to talk, and for that you can have a list of prepared questions, then have a notebook to scribble down quesitons that occur to you as the guests chat. Throw in a Q&A at the end, and you can cruise through them!
@dagmarheinrich269

That was my very first thought too! Not that explicit but a sitting and chatting area, a fridge and hot water pot, snacks and of course pet beds for Frodo and the Kitty Cat too. Good lighting and plants, WiFi and a printer. May be some of these carpets/rugs/mats? Made from straw or ... water hyazinths? Since these catch the dust and dirt underneath and it's easy to just fold or roll them together one side and then the other to sweep and wash the floor. No big deal and no need for an extra vacuum cleaner. Plus not too hard for the "Floor troll's" knees when glueing or cutting stuff together. 😊

Re: Merch Honestly I'd love Patterns(including digital ones!), a cute watercolor print, or patches from you. all three are easily packaged in recyclable packaging. I understand wanting to limit waste, I always feel weird ordering a new tshirt from a merch provider, especially when the merch is like...not related to their channel? You do fun fashion drawings and they'd make great stickers/mini prints/patches, and if you ever made something like a work bag pattern(a bag to throw a bluetooth speaker, drink, sewing projects, art supplies etc into and then bring it around the house) I'd buy the heck out of that. I currently use an old weekender bag to hold all my project stuff, I've used a basket lined with fabric in the past but the ability to have everything I need in arm's reach for sewing/knitting/drawing is so great. Adam Savage has this tool bag that is nice but really not tailored to people who craft things like cross stitch, knitting, sewing, etc.

Hi Rachel, take it from me, panels are easy. Think of it as a tea party with friends who are interested in the same things you are...I have been watching you for a looooooong time and kind of think of you as a young friend. I think a lot of people who watch you feel that way. We want you to do well and are excited to meet you because you present as someone who is genuine. I wish I could go, but I am in Washington State and traveling isn't in my budget this year. that is another thing you can do...seed the audience with your real friends and when you get nervous, just look at them. Break a leg, dear lady. I know you will do fine.

I am here for the colorful, meme-ful episodes of chaos. I just love your slow weeks, your full weeks, your weeks of repainting whatever you put your hands on. I'm good for a 10 minute check-in and your 40 minute show me every step cosplay stuff too. Just say hi and I'm happy most of the time. Who's with me?

You could possibly use downstairs for the rails with clothes and sew upstairs when you will mostly be sitting? Such a beautiful space - can't wait to see what comes from here 🥰🥰

On theme of Rachel making a difference: I moved into the first place where I can paint. You bet your biscuits i painted my bedroom wall to be trees. Eventually I’ll be unpacked and finish the trees! She also doesn’t make me scared to grow up! She maintains her interests even if theyre not “adult” and it reminds me I don’t have to let go of those things (despite what my folks say lol)

You have been such a huge inspiration to me these past few years, and without me even realizing it you have become one of my largest role models. I had someone tell me I looked like you the other day at a coffee shop--it was the biggest compliment I have ever received. My Mom walked past me watching a video of yours and stopped dead in her tracks and said, "She looks exactly like you!" (though it is most definitely the other way around). Thank you for helping me get through some of the toughest times, and for inspiring me in so many ways. You are such a ray of sunshine in this world and I had to share my appreciation for everything you do and have done! You are amazing :)

The new studio space looks great! I can't wait to see it with the Rachel Maksy flair. I absolutely love the house progress and especially the DIY videos. It makes me feel like I could decorate my space the way I want to some day.

Love the new space. I would definitely put in some comfy seating upstairs and whatever you need for a less stressful creative space. More like a craft space for stress relief and not just for your job etc. Kinda like a break room. A place where you can go to get away without having to go to the main house etc. Also what does Frodo think about a "barn cat"?

Your interest in doing hospital visits and charity work with cosplay is so, so endearingly sweet. Any chance you could get Frodo certified as a therapy dog? Just thought maybe that would be another way to do the kind of work that it sounds like you're really passionate about!

Loving the beams! Beeeeeeeeams. (And not to be rude or sound mean or anything but I’m glad your announcement isn’t pregnancy… b/c honestly it makes me sad to see the women I follow start making only parent content which doesn’t interest me in the least…selfish? Yes. True, though? Also yes.)

The attack looks amazing! Suggestion (if you want it)… maybe make the attic an editing office/sewing space. That way it stays simple and beautiful and you can enjoy it while working? And the main space storage and costume displays and all that? No matter what you do it will be amazing! Excited to see it all!

A few things: I know it will be tough, but myself and I'm sure many others would love to see the process of you moving your stuff into your studio, seeing how you organize, decorate, etc. Also! Have you ever tried LARP? It's in the vein of cosplay, but you get to design your own character! - It's SO fun, if you can find the right group/event. I'm so proud of everything you're accomplishing. You're such an inspiration

Just an idea, but you might want to store your fabric somewhere out of direct sun. It'll be tricky but sun damage is very real!

I use a massive plywood 10 drawer filing cabinet with deep full sided drawers but I guess a regular filing cabinet would work. I never want to deal with another plastic storage drawer abomination again. Having something NICE and STURDY just removes that TINY bit of frustration that will just wreck my day.

For sure! But I also understand wanting to be able to SEE all the fabric you have at a glance. Maybe the corner of the room that's flanked by the windows would work well?

Before mice infestation I had my fabric rolled up so I could see it on a set of bookshelves with a curtain in front of it. Now they are big clear plastic bins on bigger shelves. I made fabric sculptures and I needed to see and compare pieces to see how colours and patterns worked together

You can have that wood window rehabbed if you want to keep it. It isn't cheap, but it's not ridiculously expensive either. It's so cool that you can see the original wood pegs from the mortise and tenon construction. I'm glad you guys decided to leave the original materials exposed. The space looks amazing!

By the way… I’m not on your end to see all the “hate posts” but from my end it seems like you have plenty of followers who love your content and genuinely love seeing you happy. I’d say post things that make you happy… turn up your confidence… and be successful at what you love! Part of you growing is your friends and family growing with you. That’s how you weed out the people you don’t need in your life and find the gems that help you to continue to grow. ❤️

Your attic could be like Hugh Grants character in Paddington 2. You can display your costumes, do your character makeup, etc. Good luck with whatever you do with it!
