We bought a shelter from Valley Storm Shelters and we couldn't feel safer during a storm. Love it!

I can see the reasoning for this test as most of these units are installed in garages and a Class 4 or 5 will pick up a car and toss it around. Good demo

Strange how the truck goes farther down the track for all of the competitors tests. They also only tested competitors which used the same sub par anchoring system at the low end of the price spectrum.

I heard on another storm shelter video of one of these metal above ground rooms that these metal ones completely protect you from lightening strikes and that the concrete ones do not.

I think this test clearly demonstrates the strength of the design but i can't help but wonder if it's overkill for 99% of situations. With that said, it looks very safe.

Wow! I really like how they tested each shelter. But now I know if a tornado shelter can be installed under ground it is probably the safest. What would be cool is if you could have a Valley Storm Shelter with a door in it that goes to an underground storm shelter/bunker. There have been tornado winds in the USA clocked at more than 300 mph. Some people believe that there may have been tornadoes in history before measurement that were stronger like maybe 350mph. Some people believe that someday there might be EF6 tornadoes. What then?

What is the overall strength of the structure? Meaning, if a collapsed house is on this, can it hold up? What about if a full size vehicle has been dropped on it such as I've seen on photos and videos of post tornado damage?

Lots of cases where below ground is not ideal. Areas with high water tables, areas in flood zones. People who are disabled, people with pets that can't traverse steep steps, people with small children who need help. And aside from these, most below ground shelters (other than the cramped garage ones) are outside. So if a tornado comes, there's a real chance of having to go through baseball size hail and flying debris to get to the below ground shelter. At the very least the rain will be torrential. Only way to avoid these is to go to the shelter before each storm with potential for tornadoes and stay there until the storm passes... That would get old quick. The safer shelter is the one that actually gets used.

As nice as this is… all this can be avoided with an underground shelter. But that has its own problems like flooding and debris landing on door and locking you in.

Bored turtle Of Middletown their storm shelter lifted and broke the concrete. They used a 4500lb. Vehicle to make this test. If they had used a larger vehicle it would have sheared completely off the base. You need a structure that is “near absolute protection”. I would not put my family in this kind of shelter!

@@A1SPI I'm relatively certain that the likelihood of a tornado moving a 4,500lb or heavier vehicle at 25 mph is pretty low. Can it move one? Sure. Flip it over? Absolutely. But people don't seem to realize just how fast 25mph actually is. And if this is in your garage, the vehicle would have to go through your house, absorbing much of the force, and THEN impact the box.

What if the house gets destroyed and wiped clean off of the slab first ? This happens and at 200+MPH something the size of a small car is a wrecking ball of death in that storm for anyone not in an Oz shelter or something similar to it. It needs to be a large concrete tub incased in steel rebar and reinforced by more concrete.

@@A1SPI But it was stronger than all the others. Are there better above ground shelters out there?
