Bridge City planes have great appearances. Your review about their shortcomings are well known. Veritas and Lie Nelson are still in my opinion are the way to go. My Veritas low angle Jack plane does 90 % of my work.

It would be cool if you get a chance to review the newish premium bedrock style offerings from Grizzly Industrial. Their standard planes usually are just a variation from the same manufacturer as the TayTools branded hand planes and are pretty good value for money if you get a good one that passed instead of slipped thru QC. The premium ones might be a hidden gem for bedrock style planes or could be overpriced boat anchors. I’d love to see someone trustworthy like you, Rex Krueger, or James Wright review them. They even have a no 62 that is supposed to have the Norris style adjuster making it a possible better value than the Woodriver version.

Thank you!! I do have a review of the TayTools one (kzitem.info/news/bejne/04Ot0HaXkoSUmn4 ) But I didn't know they were the same as grizzled, makes sense tho. I will look into getting a premium ones and the 62 style. Thank you for the reccomendation!

Great honest review. As far as being finicky yet still an acceptable tool for non-professionals... I disagree. The tool should be as easy to use as possible for a DIYer simply because they are not professionals and will have the most difficulty working around it's lack of ease of setup and use. Especially if it is uncomfortable. It is cool looking though! Maybe I'll post a picture of it on my shop wall.

I thought the Bridge City Planes looked really nice, but for the price I could never justify them, even at $429 - especially now that they are no longer manufactured in the USA. I'm sure they are great quality, but that's a non-starter for me. Good review and thanks for sharing your thoughts!

This plane is a statement and an experiment and by no means a tool. This is a piece of conceptual art that just happens to shave wood but appears to be aimed for a non-use purpose as an aesthetical element of a house decor. A techno-art frolic by the manufacturer which cries out: "just because we can". For this alone, I like it whilst secretly hoping that it had indeed been the original intent. A manifestation of form over function. It is brave, it is mad, it is beautiful.

In a few years all woodworking KZitemrs will have a Bridge City plane in their backdrop as an ironic conversation starter. They're nice to look at, but don't look functional. Especially since critical pieces of a $1200 plane were plastic.

Shipping on any BridgeCity tools is expensive. More so than LN in my experience. I usually pay $18-19 for shipping from LN, and have paid close to $100 on some larger orders from BridgeCity. It has never been less than $20.
