The birth of all alternative and indie rock. A titanic work by all involved. This being from 1967 is just mind blowing. Reed was an incredible writer.

It is a really great song, matched poetry and form of music so perfectly, and its amoral character is pretty much a prerequisite for the kind of film-like quality that Reed went for so often. The artistic impulse Reed was plugged into was not moral, it couldn't be. He strove for art, not commentary

Best ever evocation of the rollercoaster days of an addict. A bookend for the desperation in "Waiting for the Man". Other VU tunes on my replay list include "Femme Fatale", "Venus in Furs", "All Tomorrow's Parties", "Pale Blue Eyes", "White Light/White Heat".

John Cale's rendition of IWFTM is the most authentic and harrowing version, capturing the horror and desperation of being on turkey unlike anybody else: kzitem.info/news/bejne/qIBs2IeokoVylZw

My first time hearing this song as well & I really enjoyed it. I am a major David Bowie fan, so I am only familiar with any of Reed's Bowie adjacent tunes like Waiting for the Man & White Light/White Heat, etc. After hearing this I am very interested to hear more, so thanks very much for peaking my interest! Maybe you'll do more?....

Have you heard the British band Tindersticks? Their song City Sickness is a subtle call-back to this.

Cool album, try reacting to White Rabbit by Jefferson Airplane, one of the great 60’s songs.
