Isn't this more of a Florentine method--strict linearity and modeling without color vs a Venetian--direct painting with more accidental brushwork and use of "color" by which they meant both value arrangements AND chromatic trickery? Think Bronzino vs Veronese. I'm sure there's crossover, just wondering.

When I was taught painting as a teen the teacher told me to cover the whole canvas as quickly as I could with colour and values, then paint. It served me well. I do love the grisaille technique as used also by Van Eyck.

The dry brushing reminds me of what charcoals sketching does to a drawing. It's very unique. Thank you. I have never attended an art class before. To learn about a technique that I was ready doing and find out today it's the same technique that a well known artist has used from many years ago, simply made me gasp for air. I am so glad you have created this self portrait and taught the technique. Thank you.

Thank you so much! This is one of the first paintings I did in the Venetian method and really enjoyed it. In the past I have used aspects of it but not rigidly adhered to it throughout the entire painting. I don’t keep my process the same in every painting and really enjoy experimenting, but there are aspects of this method that I am incorporating further into my experiments.
@crisalidathomassie1811
3 жыл бұрын
@@danielkrobbins6644 yes, continue experimenting to see what results you get. This is the only way we learn. What do you think of the Flemish method? I like both. What are your thoughts about Alla Prima? You are doing a fantastic job. I hope you do a still life sometime. Eric Bosick uses the Venetian method, very interesting. His studio is in Florida. Check him out. I’m glad I found your channel. Blessings and be safe. I wear gloves too. It has been said that paints are toxic only if you eat it. I’m ok with paints but not with the medium so, I wear the gloves mainly to protect myself from the medium and when mixed with the paint it becomes toxic. Anyway, keep up with the great work and looking forward to see more videos. Best wishes.
