They built a nuke aircraft carrier faster than the time they spent on this car

With battery boxes under each seat you will still have heated seats in the case of a collision.

That is some spot on fitment alright. Fabricator flex.

Last I looked it was Tim's money. If he felt like there was a better way or people with more experience to complete the build, he can do that. Unless you've designed or built an EV system, I would reserve opinions. These guys seem to know what they are doing both with car construction and EV systems.

With the tighter fitting and more secure "box" about the batteries, will that allow for an easier install in the floorboards where it was such an incredibly tight fit before? Given the aluminum itself, how about anodizing them -vs.- powdercoating? And then use a cnc laser to etch the anodizing for text notes, routing instructions, safety protocols and more to make it "look factory".

I bet jay leno is just having a ball teasing the shit out of tim for this car thats taken twice as long to build and triple the cost of a regular build

It's a pity they couldn't just put their motor & drive in it , using the same batteries that Bodie had already squeezed in . But nobody will guarantee their work , on someone else's battery setup . I get that . But I already watched this part . These are , 200 lbs. each , that's 2 under the floor boards , & 2 in the back , for 800 lbs. , not counting the motor / trans . combo . I'll check out the run up on the drive system after the install . I just hope that Tim invested in a huge diesel generator set , just to charge this thing , while this was being built . The idea / concept is great . It's a beautiful car , thanks to Bodie & crew . But any drive system can be checked out before installation . Then install it . Just saying . The Vik xyz .

Yea. I’m not sure the new battery boxes were needed. Pretty much the same.

The battery box being such a tight fit, is the power coating going to interfere with the fitment?

Are they factoring in the servicing of these batteries so the car doesn't have to be dis assembled to work on them ? Cuz you know, in time they will need attention...

I'm so glad to see forward movement on this build with folks that understand the electrification piece. Bodie is a great builder/fabricator, but the electrification was not his forte. This put it on the right track. Great work!

Curious whats the plan to prevent dissimilar metal corrosion with the steel bands against the aluminum boxes. I have learned from experience that powder coat alone will not fully prevent this.

It’s not an issue with such large profile faces simply pressed against each other. An anti-seize is used for bolts and tapped threads.

This car is what killed Tim Allen, 😩 He brought a lot of laughs to people with his home improvement shows, and he was quite a guy. I was looking to see this car finished. And see the proud look on his face..

These boxes are no better than Bodie’s, as they’re heavier thanks to the steel banding. Nothing impressive out of these guys so far, they seem to be re-inventing the wheel thus far.

I beg to differ. Using .25" plates on the side catch the full surround of the rails for vertical and horizontal support of each module, rather than only locking the modules in place horizontally with the notch in the rails then sandwiching the modules together allowing run. The use of .1875" plates with cutouts shaves some weight off of the the additionally rigid boxes. Maybe they will go more in depth in the next video once they are welded and they load the modules in.
