"Let her go, if it ends it ends. We can move towards hope that's what's beautiful about this place. We cannot run from heartache. Heartache is a part of life we know that now. Ivy is running towards hope, let her run. If this place is worthy she will be successful in her quest." I LOVE this film for so many different reasons! Can't believe a lot of people don't.

I never really got why people hated this movie so much. Personally, I loved it, especially since my family and I had just escaped from a thematically similar situation. To me, it showed-forgive me if I sound artsy fartsy-the frailty of human perception. It can be very easy to deceive people. Furthermore, the film showed that the true problem lay within the human race; it was not specific to a group. The subjects attempted to run from the violence and loss that had plagued them in the past. Instead, the very problems they tried to escape followed them because they were human problems. Yes, it wasn't gorey; no, there was not some evil demon lurking in the forest; instead, the true evil was within them all along, fear.

That's because *ALL the trailers made it seem like a horror monster movie, which it isn't*. So people watched it expecting the wrong thing, and many got disappointed, especially those people who really aren't movie enthusiasts and only want to see what they want to see. I was one of the people severely pissed off at the first watch, but recently I watched it a second time (FOR THE MUSIC!

I have an impression that critics (who are generally left-leaning intellectuals) hated it because it denounces a form of communism by showing that it is based on lies at the very core. Change must happen within the heart of man, revolutionizing the social system will not help.

Exactly my interpretation now. It used to be about human drama and grief as a kid. But as a tween it's more than just human emotions and violence. At the center it's love. It's such an unusual yet sweeping romantic tale. I love it and appreciate it all the more now.

When you cry, I will cry with you. I am from India, and day in and day out, we are bombarded with new films, from across the world. But for some reason, i have never ever felt like watching a movie. I rarely watch movies. One day i saw this movie by accident and was so lost in it, that i cried in the end, I wished i could be there, one of them, in that village. So if you are wondering if you are the only one who loves what this movie stands for and what the music evokes, you are not alone.

I agree with all the statements regarding how amazing and beautifully composed this film is. This movie isn't about monsters, which we and the villagers are lead to believe, rather the entire film explores a completely opposite idea, that of preservation and life. This film is incredibly deconstructive and intelligent in its approach to themes such as human nature, fear and love.

+McKayla55291 So glad to see I was not the only person who thought that. You just need to take this movie on its own terms. Joaquin Phoenix is remarkable in a restrained, subtle performance that brilliantly limns a man in love so deeply, he can scarcely articulate it. The scene on the porch where he and Ivy discuss dancing at their wedding...I find it riveting every time I see it. Bryce Dallas Howard is equally remarkable. The soundtrack is stunningly beautiful and evocative. I ADORE this music so much! I know, most people hated it, but I loved this movie, most especially its depiction of the romance between Ivy and Lucius.

One thing too, I think, is that everyone expected to get a good horror movie like "The Sixth Sense." When what they actually got was a romance. Don't get me wrong, I loved Sixth Sense, but I don't compare the two. They're both beautiful movies!
@EDGEproductions
8 жыл бұрын
+McKayla55291 Yes, quite right. The Sixth Sense was a brilliant movie but a very different movie. There have been a lot of marketing problems similar to this in other films. Such as The Babadook and Drive. These films are great films but the wrong people see them as they are expecting something they're not going to get. I don't really watch trailers any more because of lots of reasons. They give away surprises or plot twists and information (the new batman v superman dawn of justice did this) so they leave no surprises for the film, and because they market the film for the wrong audience I have nothing against all trailers, its just that I don't want them to ruin or change the way I'll view the film. I'm sort of rambling now but hopefully you get my point. The village was a great film and deserved a lot more than it got and I have to say, this is one of the best film scores I've ever heard for a film. It works so well with the film and it is really underrated. Like the film.
