I was on soft yes all the way until 1: The PM lied about the Uluru statement 2: Someone from the yes camp told me if I vote no I am racist. As an Asian Australian, that’s the very 1st time in my life someone calling me racist. That really puts me off tbh. I guess I am on No now.

If that's your reason for voting no, then it's a pretty poor one. If you don't want our First Nations people to have a voice on matters that directly effect them, to give them an opportunity to close the gap on health and education - then fine, that's your position. But please don't through away the power of your vote because of a remark made by a volunteer. Vote with your conscience and your heart and maybe do a little research into how the First Nations people have been treated over the past 200+ years. Start with the stolen generation.

@@ballet1840 actually it's completely fair reason. It exposes the contempt, not compassion that many in the Yes Camp have for their fellow Australians. A top down unearned sense of sanctimonious superiority, while making claims about what The Voice will accomplish that are unfalsefiable, leaning heavily on emotional manipulation, moral posturing, yet refusing to answer difficult sober questions that need to be fleshed out before anyone could seriously contemplate altering one of the most successful national constitutions in history. The Yes Camp also seen perfectly happy to project that those in the No Camo don't want to help solve the issues affecting the Aboriginal demographic. It's presented a The Voice is the only way, when the majority of those leaning no do not believe that is the case, but that it's a highly inappropriate solution to issues that are not permanent. That it is a formalised contradiction to 50 years of multiculturalism, western liberalism, and that it's a corrosive move for a multi ethnic state. You'd find that if the referendum had been split into two questions, that it's highly likely Australians would vote for constitutional recognition of Aboriginal peoples, yet reject The Voice.

the native people of Australia have been discriminated against for far too long, their lands stolen, their religious places disrespected, and their culture denigrated with thousands killed in police custody. read about the way in which every aborigne that was exterminated in Tasmania. the aborigines as other native societies whose lands have been stolen should be given vast lands to create nations of their own.

They own under modern laws, under modern banking systems and with modern mining rights, more than 50% of Australia, increasing. They can go and live anywhere in the world that Australians can. They can choose any profession they want, get subsidized education and extra welfare. Most Aborigines live normal lives. So where's the discrimination?
