Its been a year since me and Phil first went out on a stomp,
In this walk we attempt the walk we were meant to do that day.
We started out in Langley Mill and followed the Watnall branch of the Midland Railway towards Moorgreen colliery, but rain stopped play.
We used a break in the weather to nip a few yards up the road to look at Brinsley headstocks, and I am forever grateful for the rain.
We got to witness the last remaining wooden twin headstocks in the UK, made famous by DH Lawrence, and featured in film adaptations of his writings,.
Last year, the local council cut them down.
We revisit the site to look at what remains.
Why would you destroy such a thing?
I'll leave you to theorise as to why.
We then track the former midland railway through Moorgreen Colliery site, Highpark colliery site, before discovering some amazing remains in the woods. Some railway heritage, some slightly more frightening, before hitting the M1 motorway, and the site of another destroyed landmark, the Watnall colliery and brickworks chimneys.
