This is a truly great song from a truly great album. The drums on the original are inspiring to me with the "ghost notes" and how they are played with so well in an understated way with deep groove and style....this drumming is the opposite with double time on the high hat..big mistake. The guy on the slide guitar is super cool and would love to hear more of his stuff if anyone can tell me who he is!! - peace out

And the Hammond is played like a third vocalist! There is no keyboard instrument that can give the level of expression possible with a Hammond + Leslie speaker.

I like this version, on letterman a lot more. kzitem.info/news/bejne/sbCO4Ih6jJyQrXo Got to agree about the drummer. Just don’t dig his groove and would like to see more dynamics, dropping down for the verses. No doubt he is massively talented, but I enjoy the original drummer more. Thing is, often when you are on stage, you are tied to whatever monitor mix you are getting. It can be frustrating.

Does anyone know the year of this recording? I was at a taping of the Letterman show- ‘98 or ‘99 featuring the Wallflowers. He sang this song and One Headlight. If that’s right this is nearly 20 years ago. We sat front row off to our right where the cue card guy stood-he gave us one at the end of the show. They taped two shows together and for some reason taped the guests out of order, so Letterman was doing fill-ins, saying clips like “our next guest is” after the guest was gone.
