This entire album still holds up almost 30 years later. I remember this came out when I was in 9th grade and everyone raged about one headlight (which I love too) but this song was my favorite. I always had this playing in my portable CD player on the way to school every morning that year. Portable CD players, hows that for a walk back in time. Don’t hit it, you’ll make it skip and scratch your cd. Lol.

Yea I think I was in 8th Jr High at the time…this song always made u feel happy and upbeat…I remember when this came out I had one of those “nano pets” at the time given as a gift, but had to hide it from ppl at school cause it’d look kinda “girlish” for a dude, so I’d feed and look after the pet between classes by going to my locker in secret for a minute 🤣…I also remember those fat-azz Nokia cell phones at that time that I’d use like a year or 2 later in high school 😂…

One, two boys by the river Down by the water Tellin' riddles in the dark With fireflies under the moonlight Carvin' the insides of a tree with a knife Ever hear the one about the boy's big sister His best friend come along He tried to kiss her [Chorus:] The only difference That I see Is you are exactly the same As you used to be One boy lives in a tower With bow and arrow And the artificial heart With his girl Miad of dishoner He loaded the cannon With a jealous appetite They say that children now They come in all ages And maybe sometimes old men die With little boy faces [chorus] [repeat] You always said that you needed some But you always had more, more than anyone

@knowsmebyname

It's a rip job on his father. Funny in that his father is thought the master of music hit pieces. I don't know how well you know Bob Dylan, but he is a serial womanizer. He goes far beyond "Good time rock and roll" philandering and goes after the women of the men around him. That in mind verse 1 is about an inappropriate KISS. Verse 2 is about an immature older man. "You always said that you needed some, but you always had more than anyone." The subject matter is sex and it's pretty obvious. So I am getting at one point dad Dylan proclaimed himself a changed man, and this is Jakobs response. "You are exactly the same as you used to be".
@jamieroseman4429

@@knowsmebyname thats a cool take. I haven’t heard that one before. I always thought of it as a made up tale he came up with for the song.
@knowsmebyname

Thanks Jamie. I hope it's made up, and that the takenis off. Cuz if it's true then there is a lot of embarrassment there. There was an article in the nypost maybe 5 years ago. About a woman who was giving workshops on the perils of falling for a famous man, and being used sexually. The article was between the workshop principle, and a random woman who approached her. The gist was they were both victimized by Dylan. Thanks for responding.

co2metal Can you and TheFinalAmmendment explain what you mean by a band like this couldn't get popular today? For one, the Wallflowers had one pretty big song (on modern rock charts), this song which was kinda big, and their cover of Heroes. So definitely think there are similar bands that have a few big songs on the rock charts. Also, although not exactly the same, the Alabama Shakes had the number one album on all of the Billboard Charts for a few weeks so they kind of disprove your point. People are so nostalgic for their era of music and forget that mostly dog shit was popular. For christ's sake the year this album came out, the Macerena was the #1 song for three fucking months, THREE!

My CD player had 5 second skip protection. I splurged for that upgrade. I graduated in 2001, and remember this music at HS parties, driving with nowhere to go and even while in the driveway playing basketball 🏀. I'm 40 now, but sometimes I come across or just remember the music from when I grew up. I just listened to some Counting Crowd, Oasis, Weezer, Offspring, Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains and Soundgarden..And can't forget the classics like Aerosmith, Ozzy Osbourne, Guns and🌹's, Bob Seger, Metallica, Kid Rock and so many more. Listening to this music kinda makes me feel like I'm getting old, but it's worth it because I honestly believe that the 90's had some of the best bands ever. And they have Staying Power. When I'm long gone, along with all of these artists, their music 🎵🎶 will still be around, played regularly and touching every new generation.
