Back in the day, The Waltzing Cuckoo was in Palmer-Hughes Book 3. A general question - Why do you play the bass longer than the chords? Is it just a personal interpretation because it sounds better?

You're right; it's book 3! I've just fixed the title. That's a good question. I have always just played it like that with a 3/4 time signature. It comes naturally to me to play like that.

Bass is normally played longer than the chords because often bass (eg. string) is usually slightly sustained, although that can also depend on the tune or style of music.
