I wear this in Minnesota working for a phone company. So up on poles and outside and then in peoples houses all day. For me its excellent. I just wear a base layer, and then a t shirt over the top and the jacket. It's so warm I haven't had to add another layer yet, and I haven't actually needed to zip it up once since I got it in December. Great thing is when I'm inside I just have this jacket to take off and I'm comfortable. Held up really well so far. Definitely worth the money if you need a super warm jacket for outside work.

I just purchased this coat, in part because of your review. I own two cemeteries, and during the winter it is almost always brutally cold and windy, and I really feel it while standing and waiting for a family to pay their last respects to a loved one in the midst of winter. I’ll probably use my other Carhartt jacket when doing physical stuff, but this one seems perfect for those numerous times when my main goal is simply staying warm. I want to say this final thing. I’ve tried many brands of jackets in my job. While I’ve never had a problem with the functionality of other brands, I am most impressed with Carhartt’s zippers. It doesn’t matter how good a coat is if the zipper isn’t durable, and this is the main reason I look to Carhartt first.

@325iaddict
Жыл бұрын
If you start swaeting in it within 5 minutes, then it most likely doesn't have a REAL down fill.... ALL those polyester filled jackets may be quite warm, but you'll sweat out of them as soon as you do some physical work in them. Trust me: there is NO substitute for REAL down. Try a The North Face McMurdo parka, or better, if you can find one, a Bergans Lava down parka, or one of the many nice Nobis down parkas and if we're talking WARM... take a Mountain Hardwear Absolute Zero, or an Arcteryx cold WX parka SVX. All of these parkas are 100% waterproof and have a good stand collar, and a removable hood. Much, much more adaptable and non-sweating than the Yukon for sure.

The fur trim by the way is not for what you said. It catches your breath and freezes to the fur instead of your facial skin. Keeps people from getting frostbite on their nose, lips, chin ,etc. etc. etc. Be amazed how few know that. It is made to keep your own breath from dooming you ,lol. Peace,.

In heavy cold here’s what I do. We had -30 Celsius last week here in Alberta Canada and this worked. Starting at the feet. Thinner wool and full on winter wool socks, Sheepskin insoles in your boots. If you are walking this is enough. If you need to stand still you will probably want an insulated boot on top of it. I wear a wool long John and just standard pyjamas underneath my jeans and this works for my legs. For my main body I wear a waffle knit Henley tucked under the pyjamas over the wool long johns. Some sort of shirt over that tucked into my jeans. The layered tucking keeps wind out when you bend down. A heavy jacket weight wool shirt over that untucked and my carrhartt jacket with the fleece lining to keep the wind out. Standard insulated deerskin gloves and a touque on my head with a silk cowboy scarf around my neck usually tucked Under my shirt above my Henley. This works great for extreme cold up in a manlift installing timbers all day

4:45 - 5:05 You are correct about the purpose of the fur trim. However, I would like to say that no faux fur can beat real coyote fur when it comes to warmth and anti snow built up. This is a fact that's proven by science. When I went to Antarctica, Alaska, northern Canada and Siberia, I wore parkas with faux fur and real fur, and I can tell you that the parkas with real coyote fur trim is considerably warmer.

I'm not sure if I missed it or not but I believe you didn't mention your height and weight and what size you're wearing. I'm 6'1" and 185Ibs and I'm not sure what size would fit the best. I've had Carhartt fit pretty baggy on me but not long enough in length. Just trying to estimate what size may fit me right.

Excellent jacket, high quality in terms of quality, but there is a defect in the hood. Unfortunately, it is very large. I tried the jacket and loved it. I hope the company reconsiders the hood... Thank you very much, I wish you success, brother 🌹👌

Great review. I don’t need the likes of the Yukon because I layer up with a base layer, polartec grid 1/4 zip and then I start my Carhartt swag. Usually after a Carhartt hoody or fleece then a Carhartt outer shell top and trousers. I’ve worked in blizzards with this kit with no problem.

I wore a black lined carhart jacket on a natural gas drilling rig in wintertime in minus 80 degrees fahrenheit weather and it was too warm while working. Just standing around though it was fine. That coat lasted me 5 years until it got stolen.

Weak sauce. In the pacific north west we pull our G string over our shoulders and deal with the weather. We don't use fancy parkas.

What are a good pair of pants that you’d recommend for similar weather conditions? Can never find good video reviews for pants I like

A great review but a few words on the Mountain Hardware Absolute Zero. There's little point in paying retail for this one unless you have money burning a hole in your pocket or have an employers' subsidy because you like somewhere really cold or some such that discounts the price. It goes on sale every year for about half retail. At that price it's a steal. Secondly, it's a mountain climbing parka for high altitude ascents. It's overkill for most situations. It's durable & windproof but not really appropriate for a work site unless you work as a mountain climbing guide in Tibet. I know a Canadian who bought one of these to walk the dog & go for hikes in - 20 deg C but that's not really its purpose either. Hiking maybe because it's relatively packable for the warmth. It's quite light for the amount of insulation but it's not going to be as durable as 300 denier cordura. I wouldn't talk someone out of buying an Absolute Zero Parka if they knew its pros/cons but the Carhartt is a better buy for most people to do work or just walk around in cold climates. The AZ also screams technical climbing wear. Arcteryx do some more subtle cold weather parkas if someone really needs to spend 800 or 900 bucks.

Nice intro. I don't like the bartender ad's at the beginning. I was obsessed with wool for a long time(still am), but now has evolved to real fur coats like sheepskin. Also into cashmere and mohair these days as I hear it's better than sheep wool. A lot of high end jackets use real fur around the hood. Stuff like beaver, mink, racoon, is the best to block the wind, rain, and snow. When buying these high end coats they cost the same second hand as these ones like carhartt and northface cost new.

Layer up always, im a builder and im wearing a tool belt rig. So carhartt flex tee, long sleeve shrit thermal shrit and carhartts thermal zip up hoodie. I can work in single digits and be warm. Only problem is always the hands.
