That. Is. A bloody. Marvelous. Mill. I'm astounded. Running multiple things off of one power house is brilliant.

Does the water come from a detoured stream or do you have to set up the water mill beneath a natural waterfall?

For everything. Do you need to do something repetitive that requires movement? Grinding mill, pressing olives, cleaning wool, blowing air in an oven, moving a conveyor belt, hammering stuff and so on and so for.. from the early middle ages to the steam engine invention that's how stuff was done

What we're these Mills generally used for? Just a simpler form of hydroelectric power? And if so how did they harness the energy?

Usually, as people would set in an area, initially a mill would be constructed to provide wood (sawmill) so that a community could expand, build, etc... Once the land was "developed" i.e. cultivated and crops (cereals) started appearing - the mill was extended (or another one built) to "grind" the grain into various flours. Later some of these were converted to drive generators to produce electricity. Ciao, L

Whereabouts? It's a very intriguing endeavour! Full scale? Grist or saw mill? Overshot, undershot, breastshot? I'd love to build a small working undershot sash sawmill like one might have found in early-to-mid 1800's Niagara Peninsula, Ontario.

You know ive been looking for a video on how this shit works for about 3 years now and something i put on just for the chill music finally answered way more questions than anything ive put serious effort into lol I always wondered how they turned off the functions in a water wheel easily and now i realised its just a lever troph lol
