Wonderful rendition of a song that I cried to on first hearing in the 80s.

Great stuff, I wonder why he changed his lyrics? I liked the original concept.

Mike Scott is quoted as saying he changed the lyrics of the original - "Years after this song was released I received a letter from a Russian man who said every word of the song was true except the line "It's not how many Germans you kill that counts, it's how many people you set free"(first verse). He told me "people went to the war to kill Germans". I realize that when I wrote the song I allowed youthful idealism to distort the sense and truth of the song with an out of context pacifist sentiment. I have now changed it. "

And now It’s Putin such a shame how bad dictators treat their own citizens I hope the Russian citizens get voting in their next leader for their own sake and security to live life as they choose without fearing for truths 🌍✌🏼
