I saw The Waterboys several times in the 80s. It was always impressive to see how well they played their instruments and how good they were live, and that they were able to put a new spin on their excellent songs. This song is the only Waterboys song that ever gets played on the radio, and much as I love it, it gets tedious when there is so much excellent music from them to choose from. I would be a bit disappointed if they were still playing this song in 2014 exactly the way they recorded it in 1985, when they had other band members including Karl Wallinger. I loved this.

What a blessed experience to have seen. Let us hope for many more from Mr. Scott. The lyrics and tone of Mike Scott's masterpiece are of humility in the face of innate and effortless brilliance. The tempo is expectant and steady. Praise and full recognition for one surrendering to natural genius. I am moved to near tears by this tune nearly every time I hear it. Let us all listen to the genius within - that still, quiet voice whispering from across the millennia.
