For every English: Selfmade Subtitles 0:24 (German1): Take out your compass! - we probably have to go a little further west. (German2): Yes (German1): Yes, west, definitely. there will be Front. (German2): There we come into Forest. (German1): Right. I would say another 100 meters and then we gather and discuss further. (German2): Understood! (German1): All right, let's go! 1:34 (German1): It can't be far. I would say we go along the road to the Inflection. maybe about 100, 200 meters (German2): but now we should definitely keep our eyes open (German1): Absolutely. remains vigilant (German2): I would say we go in open Order and see what awaits us in the forest (German1): We do it like this. 2:44 (German1): We split the Group, and proceed over-the-board (Not sure with this) (German2): Well, I take Manfred, prefer, and when the coast is clear, you move after. 3:15 (German): secure! (German): SECURE! (German3): What are we doing with him now? (German2): Search him at first! ... Go ... Down! (German1): You guard him. You both drag the corpses away! (German2): Jawohl! (German1): Did you search him? (German2): Yes. 4:06 (German1): ...there must be Warsaw! (German2): Herr Feldwebel, we are located in the north! (RusPris): Fascist! ((German1): Somewhere in this Area!) (German1): we definitely need to go in this direction. (German2): Then we should just squeeze out of him where the opposing lines are. 4:45 (GerSuv): A few hundred meters behind us the Russian armor tops caught up with us. Two T-34 we had still managed, but then a PAK (Anti-Tank) caught us and our commander has completely been shredded. The first one went crazy and put the buck in the funnel. I was the only one who made it to the forest. (German1): And what happened here? (GerSuv): I got through with the grenadiers all the way to this point and then we were overrun. And where do you want to go? (German1): We want to go back to Warsaw to the old Frontlines. (GerSuv): But then we should hurry, they could come back at any time. (German1): Interrogate the Russian now so that we might get something out of their front and then make everyone ready for marching! (German2): Than let's get started! ... (to German3) He should show us where his guys are. (German3): (the same in Russian, I believe) (RusPris): BLYAT! (German2): this is going to take a while. Go Wili (German2) 5:49 (RusPris): Sobaka! (Dog!) 6:58 (German2) S***, the MG! (Get's killed while running away) 7:29 (German1) Wili, we need to go now! ... Hurry, Zak Zak! FINNISH Correct pls if I made mistakes

As someone whose German is limited to schnell, schoen, schmutzig, wasser und bunker, this was well done and easy to follow. The soldiers are portrayed as men caught in the murderous chaos of war, a war they had no part in initiating, and are simply trying to survive. The main character, seen throughout the series is very good, and easy to relate to as a fellow human being, just trying to retain his humanity and survive.

Excellent reenactment of typical fighting between small platoons of soldiers. The Germans were there to conquer more land for Germany (a major mistake both politically and militarily). The Russians were there to defend their motherland (at a terrible cost of the lives of their soldiers). It turned out to be one of the most tragic times for Europeans as the shedding of blood, blood, and more blood became the norm in WWII. Fast forward to now where Europeans must unite, defend, and support each other for a strong and bright future. Lessons learned one hopes.

The way they cleared that hayloft... My first thought, when I heard the noise up there, was, "Toss a grenade up there, right fucking now". And I fully expected the guy climbing the ladder to get a bullet in the face. When I saw the guy up there, I thought, "He's a Russian dressed up as a German; don't trust him (or shoot him right there)". And as for training in clearing buildings: as these guys are really, really worried about the Russians overrunning them, I'd say this is sometime after Stalingrad, when the tide had turned, and the writing was on the wall for the Germans. I'd be beside myself with astonishment if information and lessons learned from fighting in built-up areas (ie: clearing buildings) hadn't made it's way to every infantry unit on the Russian front by now. And even if it hadn't, there's no excuse for stepping into a doorway or climbing a ladder when you don't know who the hell is in there. That's the kind of poor decision that'll bring your war to a sudden end.

To see them advance beyong the old prejudices aimed against German history is encouraging. It is good to see young Germans embrace their history and learn from it while preserving some honor for their home and ancestors....regardless. Much like those in America that honor the Confederacy. Many reasons those people fought...and it was not just about preserving slavery. To the contrary actually. Towards the middle of the 2nd WW, most Germans were fighting for their country/freedom....not Hitler.
