Virtuoso voice work by Mel Blanc redeems the whole cartoon. That guy was really strange looking, kind of a cross between Edward G. Robinson and Vincent Price. A lot of 50s horror movies followed in the footsteps of this revolt of the bugs theme and it is still going on today with shows like _Zoo_.

Apparently, the homeowner is suppose to be a caricature of director Art Davis: tralfaz.blogspot.com/2016/08/the-way-of-all-pests.html

You know, in 1940 and 1941 In some studies of Columbia Cartoon, Cartoon MGM and many others Mel Blanc always makes the voices of the characters but the best study of all the Warner Bros cartoon here where did the beautiful voices: Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Yosemite Sam, Tweety, Sylvester the cat, the polecat French pepper etc etc.
