I once heard a song with a similar title, only this one was about a man who is about to be hanged, but expects someone to come set him free by paying his "fee" with gold or silver. The first verse goes like this: "Hangman, hangman, hold your rope, Hold it for a while, For now I see my mother coming, Running many a mile. Mother, have you silver or gold to set me free, Or have you come to see me hang beneath the gallows tree? Son, I have no silver or gold to set you free, So, I have come to see you hang beneath the gallows tree." (In some versions, the line is "have you brought me gold, have you paid my fee," etc, etc) In the next verse, the victim's father comes along to say that he too has "no gold or silver to set you free" and that he has come "to see you hang beneath the gallows tree," and in the next verse, it's the victim's sister, then his brother, then his aunt, then his uncle, his cousin, etc, etc, until finally, his "true love" arrives, and it's SHE who says: "Yes, I do have silver and gold to set you free, No, I've not come to see you hang beneath the gallows tree." Is that song available on KZitem?

Original version is “Mc Pherson Lament“ James Mc Pherson was a scottish outlaw in the 17th century, he also like to play the fiddle, before he was hanged on a gallow tree. It is said that he wrote and composed the song. I love it.
