@@atom0824 there are definitely layers to that lyric. 1. people change. the weeknd discusses the subtle disappointing women have upon learning of his true nature or demons. or how he has changed/will change over time. 2. they're so fucking faded that nothing makes sense and you cant recognize anyone. its not the most lyrically complex line, but it is very good, simplistic, and arguably relatable.

If you really look at it, lyrics are scary ass shit. Poor girl can't breathe and trying to leave but he just tells her to open the window and trying to convince her that in fact it's really a happy house and that they're happy and it's fun and she's terrified, but she "belongs to him" and he won't let her go. Abel is a fucking genius.
It "hurts to breathe" cause they're stuffing coke up their noses.

Not really scary, just ironic. its not like shes inhaling Joker gas or noxious fumes lol. Its just weed smoke or drug smoke. They arent happy, so the irony is that its a happy house. Also, I think one of the samples comes from a song that has the same irony so he might have been influenced by it.

This whole song is a trip. The first part is so happy. Just like when you first get high but then the second part is the come down. I hate when the song finishes. Because then you have to replay it. Then you have to get high again and come down once more. And you are caught in a cycle of ecstasy and pain. UPDATE: Lol oh shit 4 years later and I never thought this comment will get crazy likes, thanks guys! I was high af when I wrote the comment. So while I was listening I was also riding out the physical feeling. Today I think the first part is “happy” but in an eery and destructive way. Ghoulish almost as someone mentioned here, with something hiding behind the “happiness”. I miss those Trilogy days man, but look where our boy is at today, number 1! Love and blessings to you all! Siouxsie and Banshees Happy House for those that do not know where the background comes from. That was a Post Punk band from the late 70's. Siouxsie was the singer. In the late 70's punk was dying as everyone was getting bored however, a genre was born Due to that boredom that was called post punk. and the kids like siouxsie started mixing genres with punk. Rock genres likes psicodelia, Avant Garde and minimalism. Abel is a smart young man and we the fans of that in old music appreciation appreciation as well.
