As an OG fan I can tell that this album was a grower for most of his old fans and it gain much more praise after "Starboy" album - people have realized that BBTM is still super dark The Weeknd but covered in mainstream appeal and beats. Lyrics are super dark especially "In The Night" which was called at the beginning like a pure pop, sold-out song while it's one of the saddest song on the album if you listen to what he says. Many people don't pay any attention to the lyrics in general so I was not surprised. I enjoy artist who grow and change their style very organically and they are true to themselves and The Weeknd mastered the craft of changing up the style and still being himself. During Trilogy days he said that he wanted to be the next MJ, he recorded "Rolling Stone" to warn his fans that the change is coming. Every era was executed almost perfectly. I have some negative words towards "Starboy" album and beats selection on "My Dear Melancholy EP" especially after hearing demo versions of songs on this project.

I love BBTM! This is the album that got me hooked on The Weeknd's music. This album is very pivotal in his career because it is the beginning of his superstardom. It is evident that he was trying to expand his audience and grow as an artist, pushing his talents to different heights. I think you should listen to his single King Of The Fall. The single was released before he dropped his first single for this album back in 2014. It falls in this era of The Weeknd's music.

So I’ve listened to The Weeknd since House of Balloons. He released his three mixtapes back to back to back. What’s crazy is that after he released the third mixtape he mixed and mastered which would ultimately come together as Trilogy. The original versions of each song on that album sounded pretty different than the studio version we get from Trilogy. It would be very difficult to rank his albums because each album has a different vibe and each release I feel has connected me differently track from track. Kiss Land will always be my foreigner album. If you didn’t know the album was heavily influenced by Japan and that’s where the sound took a bit of a oriental direction of that makes sense. I’ll always love this album because like you mentioned, this was his mainstream debut. It wasn’t his first album but it was his first album to produce 2 number ones and a few other top ones. The Hills, I can’t feel my face being number ones and In the Night & Often as top 10 tracks. Starboy was something magical. He managed to spit out single after single. His music definitely had the attention of new fans base and he still managed to keep his dark tone. Personally I’d rank his trilogy number one and then hand select his songs individually from each album.

My favorites on BBTM are Acquainted and Often personally. This album is my least favorite of his, but definitely still a great project. I’d rank his albums/mixtapes: 1. Kiss Land 2. After Hours 3. Starboy 4. Echoes Of Silence 5. House Of Balloons 6. Thursday 7. My Dear, Melancholy 8. Beauty Behind The Madness Starboy took me until last week to really love. The different style of production is so good! You’re gonna love A Lonely Night, Die For You, and I Feel It Coming

If you like that theatrical cinematic sould i think youd like lana del rey. She has a moody, soft, sound to her music. Her and the weeknd have more collabs

Re: your question about ranking his albums. I started listening to the Weeknd as a heartbroken/directionless 19 year old in 2011, so his earlier sound and darker themes about heartbreak, emotion, toxicity and desire have always spoken more to me. For me, starting from my favourite album/mixtape to my least favourite it would be: 1. Echoes of Silence 2. Kissland 3. House of Balloons 4. My Dear Melancholy 5. Thursday 6. Dawn FM 7. After Hours 8. BBTM 9. Starboy However, I think Dawn FM and After Hours will be regarded as his "most defining projects" of his career (for the time being).

If I picked a top 5 for this album it’d be 1. In The Night 2. Prisoner (feat. Lana Del Rey) 3. Dark Times (feat. Ed Sheeran) 4. Angel 5. Shameless I know I’m gonna get clapped for putting the song with Eddie in the top 5, but that song has a close spot in my heart for personal reasons.
