Thanks for posting this! I just dug this exact model out of my grandparents' basement and I'm not a audiophile- it's replacing my little desktop Crosley- but it's nice to know a little bit more about it.

My older brother got this unit for Christmas in 1972!

"multiplex" was one of the terms used to describe the sub-carrier standard for FM broadcasting, which is still in use today. I don't think it had anything to do with the turntable, but the weird way that thing folds does remind me of a public building with a mezzanine level.

Multiplex refers to it receiving and decoding stereo signal, not whether it has any other components besides a receiver.

I have a Panasonic receiver from '71 or so, and interestingly enough, they call it a "Multiplex" unit even though it is only and AM/FM tuner. The other oddity with it is that both the Phono and Tape inputs are live at the same time...

Michael Crowley That is unusual. If the phono input is also unequalized, its made for a ceramic cartridge.

It is! You are correct; it is meant for ceramic cartridges.

I have one of these. I replaced all capacitors. I really love this unique model but i must replace at least one noisy GE transistor. I absolutely love this turntable even though it does have a really bad alignent toward the center spindle.

These are pretty bad about noisy transistors.

Multiplex means that the tuner decodes stereo

I know it's been a long time but do you happen to know what type of needle this unit requires

Afraid not. Now that Needle Doctor is gone, it's considerably harder to find styli online for these sorts of things without a cross reference book. I don't do a whole lot of turntable work; I'm more of an amp, tuner and signal processor shop. I'd contact The Record Guys in Abilene, TX and see if they can look it up; they have a large amount of old cross reference data they can look up. They're on Facebook.
