I might certainly check expiration dates on products from these machines. Something tells me they aren't used much at all and those food items may have been in there a long time.

I think the place is meant to look rundown. It seems like a place made specifically for tourists or content creators to post vids about.

From all the variety of videos of vending machines in Japan that I have seen, they are a well used product in their society. They are a dating event, a teach the children event, travel to them event, and find variety event. One of my favorites was the cakes in a can. And of course, all the great meals. Even their travel ships have rooms of vending machines for the travelers, with microwaves provided. I would certainly not worry about dates on the products in Japan.

This has become a pretty popular tourist stop over the years so the food gets refreshed fairly often. You're really paying for the weirdness of it all. Fun spot for some Instagram photos I suppose. It's in Akihabara if anyone wants to go looking for it. The signs mostly tell people to not leave graffiti, don't pee on the ground and that your make out session may be caught on camera. Lol!
