Hey Buildzoid, what do you think about TM5 memtest? I've used HCI memtest before but swapped to TM5 on my DDR3 5th gen Intel platform, shortened my memory testing by enourmous amount. But I still'd love to hear a word from a specialist.
@IK4MS
3 жыл бұрын
Different memtests will often find certain instabilities much faster than others. Sometimes it takes hours of HCI but seconds of memtest86 and vice-versa. Same goes for Karhu, TM5, etc. Can also very much depend on the platform in my admittedly limited experience.

@@IK4MS the only time memtest86 can detect something fast is when Hammer test is in progress. Which is an absurdly out of place test, it only works for some dies that have specific board design. It doesn't test stability. Else, the MT86 is ultra slow and redundant.

@@ActuallyHardcoreOverclocking The total RC delay (i.e. the sum total of the external and internal RC delay to the memory cells) is the main reason why they can cheap out on the memory controller without anyone really caring. They should really just allow board partners to encroach into the keepout zone around the CPU, specifically with regards to reducing the RC delay (and to a lesser extent, the signal crosstalk) to the memory DIMMS, for products where the consumer is willing to accept responsibility for figuring out the cooling solution. Doing away with the DIMM slots entirely and having a product with specially binned memory ICs placed directly on the back of the board, right next to the decoupling caps, would be the ultimate solution. (I don't think any form of die stacking will ever be as good because of thermal limitations)
