Day 6 of the West Highland Way unfolds with a mixture of anticipation and awe as I bid farewell to my wild camping spot behind the Kingshouse Hotel. Setting out along the glen, the constant hum of the nearby road serves as a reminder of the world beyond the rugged beauty that surrounds me.
As I turn towards the ominously named Devil's Staircase, I ready myself for the ascent, pausing occasionally to admire the majestic mountains I leave behind. The climb is challenging, yet each step brings me closer to the summit, where breathtaking views await.
Descending from the heights, I am greeted by the sight of the Blackwater Reservoir, a serene oasis amidst the rugged terrain. However, my eagerness to reach the final destination proves to be a double-edged sword as I find myself arriving at Blackwater Campsite an hour ahead of schedule, only to realize that check-in is not yet available.
Taking heed of the lesson learned, I resolve to savour the journey and embrace the pace of the trail, mindful of the beauty that surrounds me and the lessons it imparts. With this newfound perspective, I enjoy a peaceful and well-earned seat, reflecting on another fabulous day walking the West Highland Way.
