None of The Who was anywhere near the best at their instruments, except Keith Moon (who along with Neil Peart and John Bonham, are considered the best rock drummers) Great band yes....best, no....and of course the greatest band there ever was, or ever will be are The Beatles
@gr.vo.3058

@@ITILII Are you kidding? The Who had an allstar lineup. Entewistle (who can also sing) considered top three bassist by Rolling Stone. Townsend #10 on lead. Plus he wrote music and lyrics and sings alternate lead. Moon, maybe the BEST Drummer of alltime. And Daltry? C'mon man. Seriously? Again very High ranking by Rolling Stone. And much better range than Mick...The WHO was like a four ring circus.

You bring up a great point. When I watch the original Who, you must watch all the band to get the experience. Of all of them, Keith Moon was my favorite. But back then drummers were key players in bands; Zeppelin, Cream, etc. Unfortunately, those days are long gone ...

Only The Who could write something as epic as Tommy's "Overture," with all the horn, keyboard, and guitar parts in it, then perform it live with only four people, and still make it sound so fucking cool.

first time I ever heard the Who was this song ona Claritin commercial over 10 years ago. just a kid then but something struck me about it i vaguely remember my parents mentioning the name Tommy... then couple years later i was watching the post 9/11 concert for NYC. The Who came on and I've never seen such a crowd so ecstatic. I knew there was something special about the Baba O' Riley riff. dad told me it was the Who & 6 years later 3/2007 i saw the Who in concert as a high school freshman.

keith moon. what can you say... able to take percussion and not just be the beat but become its own rythmic presence that is more than just a static in time beat. a tight drummer is great but a drummer with this level of personality on the drums and in life, not to mention ability... thats a rare thing indeed. This has to be one of the best overall live performances of all time. ive got the dvd and i watch it over and over... it never gets old. wish i was only born 20 years earlier.

Audie: excellent overview of this video Baron, you are so silly ! You fooled us all on that Who question :) The only slappy squirrel i grew up with (born in 64) was a peanut butter brand. Lyndsay: I bet Pete would giggle too at your Abbott & Costello schtick on 'Who' , very timely and always so funny to hear that routine. Q: i wonder if many woodstock fans really comprehended the theatrical version of 'Tommy' at that time, or would it have seemed like a left wing majestic rock overture Hmmm

@truvianni Hey Sorry for the delay in answering. The original studio album has church organ in it. It would be at about 1:27 in on this video (if they had someone layering in the church organ sidestage). Some bands who use additional instruments in the studio sometimes have additional talent onstage to play those parts.
