There were some great shows and solos from this tour. The standouts I've found have been Florida, Seattle and New Jersey. Also way back on the old Long Live Rock forum someone posted some Toronto '82 footage with John's monitor feed and it was a way better mix, I'd love to see that again.

The great thing about this show and at the same, the saddest parts are, that they did play songs, that the band never played again (The Quiet One, Its Hard, etc.). One can hear that the super "heavy" Live at Leeds sound was gone, due to Pete Townshend s guitar sound changed (and also John Entwistle s´). Tim Gorman was the keyboardist for this tour; he later went on to play with Jefferson Starship.

I love the interaction between Pete Townshend & John Entwistle during The Quiet One at 17:25. It is obvious John is straining to sing the song. Pete is smirking at him as if to say "I told you not to write it in that key!" John is laughing in agreement!

John was notorious for his on stage volume. Roger would always tell him to turn down and he wouldn't. Pete shot John that look because the latter sang, "I ain't quiet, everybody else is too loud!" John laughed his arse off because the opposite was true.

I remember this show watching it on HBO the summer of 1983 practically every single time it came on, I ended up buying this VHS and I'm truly in wonderment as to why this has not been released on DVD. This show is a classic along with the other show that was released from the same tor and is found here on KZitem I would think both shows together in a 2 pack DVD would do pretty well. A real classic.

Yeah, there IS an unofficial DVD version. But it's not really great quality. I think the reason it hasn't had an "Official" DVD release is something to do with rights issues (it was originally released on home video by CBS Fox...a subsidiary of 20th-Century Fox). But I agree with you: this is a fantastic concert. It's probably NOT the best show from this tour (this was a REALLY under-rated Who tour)...but it was a big event. A TON of people watched this show live...and so many more watched it on its HBO broadcasts (and other re-broadcasts around the world). It would be great if they figured out the rights issues and gave it a proper DVD/Blu-Ray release. It was recorded on multi-track tape (a few songs from this were remixed and included with the IT'S HARD remaster years ago)...so they could do a proper 5.1 surround sound remix. AND...they could release it as a 2-disc set because the night before (December 16, 1982) was also filmed & recorded. THAT show is also circulating on KZitem...though I have a better stereo version somewhere in my collection. The night before THIS show might be even better than this night.

This was the first thing I saw that introduced The Who to me. It was in the early days of Cable TV. My sister and I used to wait for what I now know is Baba O'Riley just to hear the harmonica lol. 37 years later and countless times seeing them live, I have stood by them as the greatest and my personal favorite band of all time. I distinctly remember watching John play and realizing that's what I wanted to do and he was my sole inspiration be a musician. It wasn't until a few years later that I picked up a guitar to learn. Ultimately I learned to play Guitar, Bass and Drums. 37 years later, this concert still has a special place with me. I also remember thinking how much I hated Keith at that time simply because I thought he was sloppy because as a young kid, I thought songs needed to have control. Only later while learning drums, did I learn to understand why he did what he did and how he had his own personal metronome inside of him. I know now, he is a legend! Sadly, the group is looking in the rearview mirror and approaching the end of the band, or at least running out of reunion tours lol. My modern day favorite song is Tea and Theater and my all time fav is stuck between two of them. Baba O'Riley and Dreaming from the Waist live from The Who by Numbers. John is RIDICULOUS on that one!

Kenney Jones was TOTALLY under-rated. People complain about his drumming in The Who, but I actually really love how this line-up sounded. While it wasn't really the same band anymore, they still totally blew the roof off any place they played...and they were more reliable. I really like Zak Starkey...but I have to admit that I actually like Kenney Jones in the band more than Zak.
